I haven't looked back since I bought this mascara. I love the way it makes my lashes look defined and longer without making them look fake. The price also wasn't too bad and I love the look of the mascara. It comes in a gold tube with gold writing and it looks really stylish ... ...and it will take a lot to beat this in my opinion.
It doesn't bother me that it isn't waterproof but obviously it is something you should be aware of before you buy it. I would recommend this to everyone who hasn't yet tried it and I guarantee you will see a difference!

*** My Opinion on… ***
With a couple of new mascaras out over the past couple of months it has been hard to know which ones to go for. I needed a new mascara but was sceptical about which new one I was going to buy. I have made the mistake before of buying well known brands and having my eyelashes look like they had been drenched in sticky toffee sauce, so needless to say I was a bit more wary this time!
So after seeing this new 'Masterpiece' mascara advertised I thought it sounded a little too good to be true and the advert seemed to be a little unrealistic. Taken from the film 'Memoirs of a Geisha', this is the mascara they used to create the dramatic look of the Geishas and it claims we can have the same effect if we simply use this mascara. Hmm I thought, they look more like fake eyelashes to me! Still with the promise of highlighting every single one of my eyelashes without any clumps in sight, I was persuaded to try it if only to write a review about it! So here is my opinion on everything from how easy it is to apply, its new unique brush and the all important results. Hopefully this will give you the best idea on whether or not this is for you!
1) Its unique Brush
This mascara comes complete with a brand new style of brush. The iFX brush is specially designed to be precise while defining the lashes and framing them to look as beautiful as they can. Reaching even the little lashes in the corner of your eyes it really does give you the ultimate defined look.
This brush is really soft to the touch and you can find this out yourself in stores such as boots, where they have a copy of the brush for people to feel just so you know why the brush is described as unique. The softness of the brush makes applying the mascara a little more comfortable than most other mascaras. Personally I have noticed a difference but there are still some mornings when I wake up and have had sleep still stuck on my eyelashes which has somehow survived being scrubbed and washed, and it has still been a little uncomfortable to apply. Obviously it is best to apply this when your eyelashes are completely clean.
As for how easy it is to apply, I have found that it has reached all of my lashes and I haven't done anything different to what I usually would. I have applied it the same way as I have with all the other mascaras I have used and it has shown at least a 90% improvement for me.
2) The Results
Moving the brush from base to tip I immediately saw a difference. It somehow makes the lashes look longer and very defined. However it doesn't look exactly how the Geisha woman looks in the advert which I have to admit I didn't expect to anyway (I'm sure she wears fake lashes!). So if you are buying this to get the exact same results as the advert you will be disappointed. If you buy it with an open mind though you will really notice the difference and your lashes will be noticeably longer and more defined.
If you don't like getting noticed then this really isn't for you. It isn't overly dramatic but it still stands out (not in a fake way!) so if you are uncomfortable standing out a little this probably isn't for you. Personally even though I'm shy I love to look my best and this definitely makes me more confident and improved the look of my eyes. I wear it to work and to go out, it's the only mascara I wear now.
I've been using this now for almost a month and I really haven't looked back. It doesn't produce any clumps, only if you have wet lashes before you start or if you cry it does tend to stick your lashes together a bit. This is due to the fact that it isn't waterproof or at least I haven't noticed it to be! So maybe this wouldn't be ideal if you were going somewhere like a wedding and it is likely you are going to cry!
3) How long does it stay on?
I've found this mascara to stay on all day as long as it doesn't get wet. If it doesn't get wet it doesn't smudge or flake off like many other mascaras do. I'm definitely impressed by the length of time this mascara stays on.
4) How many Coats Should I apply?
Because the brush defines all the lashes, you use fewer coats than you would with a normal mascara. Usually I only use one coat as that is all I need, however occasionally I have tried for two or three and it has just made my eyelashes feel heavy and clumped up so I personally wouldn't recommend more than one coat.
5) The colours
I usually go for black mascara but this comes in a small variety of colours so I thought I would try something a little different. The available colours are:
Rich Black
Black-Brown
Deep Blue
I opted for the Brown - Black colour and it is not as dark as black but it's not too light either. I think it blends nicely with my brown eyes so I've definitely found this colour to be for me! If you wanted to try something a little more daring you could always go for the Deep Blue one!
6) Price and Availability
I bought mine from Ebay as I couldn't find it anywhere when it first came out. I managed to buy it for £6.20 but it usually retails at around £8.99 at places such as boots. Obviously if you shop around prices will vary. You can also purchase it from the max factor website but they have run out at the moment and they advise you to go to boots.

The price also wasn't too bad and I love the look of the mascara. It comes in a gold tube with gold writing and it looks really stylish and elegant. I definitely will not be swapping anytime soon and it will take a lot to beat this in my opinion.

Advantages: Great lash definition, Doesn't irritate eyes Disadvantages: Price, only good for 6 months
I have been reading quite a few reviews on Ciao recently about this mascara & seeing as I have had it since it was launched, I'd share my experience with you.
I bought this mascara because of the hype surrounding it, it was supposed to make lashes voluptuously long, thicker & generally it was just supposed to be a cut above the rest. I decide I would try it but I could not get hold of the black/brown variety for love nor money for about 3 weeks ... ...at the price of £7.99 in Boots.
I normally use Bourjois mascara that comes in a white paint on first, then you add the mascara top coat, I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it, but it is fairly good.
SO WHATS SO SPECIAL?
In two words, the brush. The brush is s special iFX brush, which is marketed as the worlds first mascara brush of this kind. Basically this brush, rather than being a toilet brush design is a brush shape but it has ...

Advantages: Good, subtle daytime look, easy to remove Disadvantages: Doesn't deliver on promises, no volume or definition :(
...you want more volume, Masterpiece Max is also available. You can buy online for a number of stockists and for various prices. It's widely available on the high street too – I bought mine from Boots for £8.80. I think that this is a reasonable amount to pay for a mascara. === Final Thoughts === Although I think this is a reasonable mascara at a reasonable price, suitable for daytime wear, I feel a bit disappointed that it doesn't deliver on its promises ... ...remain optimistic in my search for the perfect mascara and so, it's onwards and upwards... I've said that I would recommend this to a friend for the simple reason that I have had friends ask me about this mascara and I didn't actively discourage them from buying. For a daytime look, for a subtle, understated look, it is a really nice mascara - nice to wear, comfortable, easy to remove. It has a lot going for it. BUT it does not do what it says on ...

Advantages: Fuller looking lashes Disadvantages: not cheap
...tube I decided to try Max Factor's Masterpiece mascara, probably largely swayed by the adverts (the one with the girl from Memoirs of a Geisha), to see if it was any better, plus it was on offer in Boots at the time which I must admit was the final deciding factor. I think it normally retails at £8.99 for a 4.5ml tube which for me is quite expensive. It comes in three colours: Rich Black; Black Brown and Deep Blue. I tried Rich Black.
The blurb ... ...Masterpiece mascara is the first of its kind. It is designed to "facilitate precision brushwork, delivering superb definition to your lashes, framing your eyes and making them stand out beautifully". Basically it is meant to reach the smaller lashes at the corners of your eyes better.
Masterpiece Mascara comes in a nice shiny gold tube, which looks quite elegant and sophisticated. When you remove the brush from the tube it makes a satisfying popping ...

Advantages: natural look, doesnt clump, long lasting Disadvantages: not the cheapest on the market
I've been using Max Factor mascaras for about two years ago, and have always loved them - although I must admit to hopping between different brands from time to time, I've always come back to Max Factor. I read lots of reviews about their masterpiece mascara, all good, and when I finally got round to trying it a few months ago, I have to say, it didn't disapoint!
~The brush~
The first thing you will notice about this product, is the brush has plastic ... ...but if it's a product you will use regularly, I would say you should think of it as a good investment.

This is available in three different colour options - Rich black, Brown black, and Deep blue. You can visit the Max Factor website at www.maxfactor.co.uk ...

Advantages: Volume and definition with no clumps Disadvantages: You get considerably less in the tube than most mascaras
Max Factor Masterpiece is the original volume and definition mascara, from which Max Factor have now devised a whole range of Masterpiece products. You can buy it from most drugstores and health and beauty retailers, so it's always easy to get hold of. It comes in black, brown-black, or blue, and costs £8.99.
It has a unique 'IFX' brush, which is designed to define and separate the lashes, creating a striking, professional effect. The brush is also ... ...in the very corners of the eyes. This original formula isn't waterproof, but there is now a waterproof version available.
It comes in a posh-looking gold tube which contains 4.5ml of mascara. The brush is very different to other mascaras, it's yellow and instead of bristles it has little rubber spikes all over it. It goes on really easily, the best way to apply is to hold it at the base of the lashes then move it side to side as you drag it upwards ...

Advantages: Very black, easy to apply and non-cloggy Disadvantages: Can only apply two coats before lashes go 'hard'.
I am always looking for a miracle mascara that will make my plentiful, curly (but very SHORT!) lashes stand out. MaxFactorMasterpieceMaxMascara doesn't work miracles but does perform to some extent. The colour is very, very black and does seem to open up my eyes. It isn't waterproof but when worn indoors or on fair weather days it's reasonably smudge-proof. What's more, it doesn't clog, even on the second coat.
On the downside, the brush has very short plastic(?) bristles which don't separate my lashes brilliantly. Also, i've found i can only apply two coats before my lashes go kind of 'hard'. I'd prefer to be able to apply more coats and just kept building it up. (This is the only way for me to achieve 'dramatic' lashes).
All in all, this mascara does a reasonably good job. However, their 2000 Calorie Mascara was ...
Advantages: Great product, easy to apply, good value for money. Disadvantages: None that I can think of
In the past I had always used Lancome or YSL mascaras, but had seen this advertised on the television.
What appealed to me was the brush on the mascara, as some mascara brushes go quite clumpy, but I must say this is the best mascara I have ever used.
The mascara itself is waterproof so doesn't give me panda eyes, when applying the mascara every lash is coated with mascara, even the tiniest lashes are covered, which makes the overall effect brilliant.
The mascara is also very volumising, and makes my lashes look really long, again due to the brilliant design of the brush.
I would recommend this product to anyone, it gives lashes a bit of oomph, doesn't budge as its waterproof and doesn't sting my eyes like some mascara's can.
Highly recommended, and easy on the pocket as well. ...
Advantages: intense colour, volume, no clumping Disadvantages: none
MaxFactormascaras are the best around in my opinion. I started off using their Classis Stretch mascara a few years ago, then moved on to Lash Lift, but then they brought out MaxFactorMasterpiece. I was in love. I still am. It's by far the best mascara I have ever tried, and it seems that I wasn't the only one with that opinion. Even now, I still read rave reviews in magazines, and see make-up artists recommending it on TV. It is rare I will stick with one product (just look at how many Beauty reviews I do, and you will see I like to try new products all the time), but I've been using MaxFactorMasterpiece for a very long time. Even so, when they brought out MaxFactorMasterpieceMax, I was reluctant to try it. I find many brands ride on the back of the success of one product, and use it's names to promote new ones. Take Boots No.7 ...
