One of my hobbies is mooching round looking for obscure bands. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a mainstream hater, I like a lot of mainstream bands. But for me, finding a new band with original music is an exciting experience (You may now call me sad if you wish, I don’t particularly care). Finding obscure signed bands is actually quite hard, my normal technique is looking for side projects of less obscure bands – recent finds have included ‘Colorfinger’ ‘Fear of Pop’ and ‘Secret Chiefs 3’. You need look no further than mp3.com for everything you ever wanted to know about MP3's - oh and you can get some music as well (how could I forget the music). Where do I start? Having your song on Napster is very good as is sending untold amounts of demos off to record companies. After the succcess of a friend, I signed up for mp3.com. While the money is hardly flooding in, it does offer great exposure, even if only to people who are already aware of your music. The interface and uploads are nice and easy as are the searches; and other music available is second to none. As for tose people who say the likes of getoutthere are better, I must strongly disagree, the volume of music available is far lower, there is no CD facility and no 'Payback for Playback'. I haven't yet tried peoplesound, mainly due to their stand0offish nature as regards accepting your music. MP3.com ... more
