Gr8 Art? No - just Tat(2)!

Advantages: Some play value for the short time it actually worked
Disadvantages: Poor quality, produced terrible 'tattoos', use of felt tip pens....

...My son had been asking for one of these 'Gr8 Art Tat2' kits, made by the Character Options brand, after seeing it advertised on TV. I paid around £15 for this kit from Toys R Us a few months ago but I've seen the 'Gladiators' version for sale on Amazon for prices as low as £5.99 recently. The toy is essentially a battery operated tattoo pen, designed to mimic the genuine article without any sharp implements or permanent staining, obviously. I can appreciate that some parents might not be so keen on the idea of encouraging youngsters to have an interest in tattoos and, if my kids go on to have Love and Hate tattooed on their knuckles, I may well live to regret this purchase! As it stands, I shall use my own childhood experiences as a guide - I spent many happy moments pretending to smoke Superman candy cigarettes and managed to avoid...

...I have a friend who does amazing nail art, she does amazing tiny pictures of flowers and butterflies amongst other things on peoples nails using normal nail varnish. I decided that I wanted to try and create some funky patterned nails for myself but found creating detail with a normal nail varnish brush was almost impossible. I came across the stargazer nail art pens on Ebay, you can buy sets containing several different colours but I chose to buy a single pen first to see if I liked it choosing the white one. Stargazer are a company which specializes in making funky make up, I love their nail varnishes in general because not only are they cheap they are really good quality and come in cool metallic colours as well as the normal boring colours. I buy stargazer products from a shop in Sterling Mills designer outlet for a pound or two...

Disadvantages: Could have quirkier rooms to match the rest of the hotel.

Inside was a mix of modern touches such as the small lobby lounge with a flat screen pc for guests to use mixed in with the artistic and very Parisian style furniture and the art that hung on nearly every wall. I actually if I'm honest couldn't decide if I liked it or not as I did because it was boutique and intimate and at the same time some of the decor was too 'old fashioned' looking for my taste. However I think if you came to this hotel you wouldn't be disgusted by it and as you don't recoil in horror when you check in to a hotel that that has to be a good thing! The rooms: I would say I expected the rooms to be different after the decor of the hotel in the lobby and I guess it was because they seemed a little boring somehow - the lobby area had nice chairs and lots of art along with flowers...

...At first I wasn't sure whether to pick up this book, mostly due to its clumsy title - it just seemed a bit clunky. This is in some ways how the plot works out - but it is more interesting than I originally thought it would be. The book follows the quest of Simon of Naples and his doctor companion Adelia, along with her bodyguard Mansur, as they try to clear the name of the Jews of Cambridge in a spate of child murders. They have been sent from Salerno by the King of Naples so that the Jews are not expelled from England - the Church would seize on the murders as an excuse to do this. King Henry II doesn't want this to happen as he needs the Jews' money. He is also furious over his subjugation to the Church after the murder of Thomas Becket.
