Jarlsberg cheese
Advantages: A sweet,nutty Norwegian cheese
Disadvantages: none
...Jarlsberg cheese named after the Norwegian county where it was first made, maybe doesn't have the popularity of Emmental ,but it is a versatile all purpose cows milk cheese,it can be used in cooking as well as being a welcome addition to any cheeseboard sandwich or salad.
A very similar appearance to Emmethal ,a golden waxy rind with a nutty mild,rich,mellow and slightly sweet and shiny golden interior filled with irregular holes.
Jarlsberg was created by a Norwegian dairy farmer,Andres Larsen Bakke,way back in the 1850`s.
Jarlsberg is one of Norway's biggest exports.
It is a firm favourite of mine,especially for cooking,the cheese melts beautifully and has a subtle flavour that will sit in the background rather than appear overpowering.
Jarlsberg has a slightly lower fat content than Swiss cheese too.
We really enjoy making...

... STILTON CHEESE
"I fancy that Stilton is the best cheese of its type in the world"
George Orwell from his essay, "In Defence of English Cooking".
"Stiltons, with the exception that they make no noise, are more trouble than babies."
Stilton cheese maker, 19th century.
INTRODUCTION
Stilton is very much like Marmite - you either love it or hate it!!
There are in fact various types of Stilton cheese ? there is Blue Stilton, White Stilton and fruit flavoured Stilton ? like apricot or blueberry, but for this review I am discussing which is the most famous Stilton, and my favourite cheese ? Blue Stilton.
There are several blue cheeses which are made in a similar way to Stilton; like Stilton, they obtain the characteristic blue veins from a fungus called ?Penicillium roqueforti?. Some of these cheeses are the Italian...

Clotted Cheese?
Advantages: Low fat, good source of calcium, taste great
Disadvantages: Only available at Tesco, might not be to everyones taste
...To be honest, I had never really eaten much cottage cheese up until last year. It was only when I started a diet, and my Mum advised me to have cottage cheese instead of Cheddar on my jacket potato that I came across it. I always like to try new things so thought it would be worth a bash. Upon first trying it, I wasn't that keen as let's be honest, it doesn't really compare to Cheddar. However, I persevered with it as I realised how good it was for me and it is now one of my favourite things to eat.
Packaging
Tesco healthy living cottage cheese comes in 300g tubs which are plastic. The tub is mostly white with a different coloured strip running along the top of the tub, depending on the flavour inside i.e. green for chive flavour and yellow for cottage cheese with pineapple. The lid is a clear plastic lid and the tub also has...

Squeaky Cheese?
Advantages: Tasty, reasonable price
Disadvantages: The sqeaking can take some getting used to!
...A friend of mine recently introduced me to a new type of cheese called Halloumi. Being a cheese lover already, I was more then willing to try it but have to say that it is very different from any other type of cheese.
Halloumi comes from Cyprus and is usually made from goats and sheep?s milk. However, the version of this cheese that tends to be sold in the supermarket?s, is made with cow?s milk and does taste slightly different from the traditional recipe.
Halloumi has a texture which is most similar to Mozzarella and it is also the same light, almost white colour. Halloumi tends to come stored in salty water which doe make the cheese taste salty, but personally, I really love it.
I usually tend to buy my Halloumi from Tesco?s and the brand that I get from here is from the Discover range (the product shown in the photo...

Delicious Nairns Cheese Oatcakes.
Advantages: Delicious, Reasonable Price, Individually Wrapped.
Disadvantages: Little High In Fat.
...I have been trying to be nice and healthy lately and one of the things that I have done is replace my usual sweet snacks and crisps with healthier alternatives like oatcakes, bread sticks and soups.
These Nairns oatcakes are available from my local Sainsburys store with a box containing 200g costing £1.19 which is quite reasonable as this contains 24 oatcakes that are individually sealed in four packets containing six in each packet.
The oatcakes are round in shape and look just like a hob nob biscuit but a little thinner and slightly smaller in diameter. I can smell a faint cheese smell coming from the oatcakes when I open the packet and everything about them looks and smells appetising.
The oatcakes are lovely and solid and well packed and while they are a little on the thin side this just makes them nice and easy to snap up in to...

Cheese Flavour Puffs
Advantages: Low Calorie
Disadvantages: A Bit Bland.
...I really enjoy my snacks but I am cutting down at the moment to lose a few pounds so when I spotted these Weight Watchers cheesy puffs on special offer in Tesco I pounced. Also I like Wotsits and these looked very similar.
Packaging
These come in a large white plastic bag similar in shape and size to all multipack packaging. To the front of the pack they have the blue Weight Watchers logo and it also tells us they are Cheese Flavour Puffs. There is a picture of the cheese puffs on it ,and it also gives us some information about this snack:
1 Weight Watchers points per bag.
0.3g Saturated fat.
Deliciously cheesy melt-in-the-mouth maize snack.
Baked Not Fried.
Reduced fat.
Suitable for Vegetarians.
On the back of the pack it gives us the ingredients, nutritional information, GDA (daily guidance) table and allergy...

cheese and broccoli escalopes
Advantages: protein for non meat eaters
Disadvantages: bit bland and could do with more broccoli
...I don't eat meat and neither does my family so we do buy a lot of quorn products. Many years ago if you didn't eat meat there was little vege stuff about it was vegetable textured protein stuff.
Quorn is good for you it is low in fat, low in calories (some products may seem high but it will be the added stuff) high in fibre and a good source of protein. Mycoprotein is the main ingredient in all Quorn products.
In 1990 the first branded home cooking product was launched - quorn pieces. Things have come a long way since then and now there is lots of quorn products to choose from - not all great.
One thing I do tend to buy quite often is cheese and broccoli escalopes and I know they are not for everyones taste even for people that don't eat meat. I like them and so do my daughters, but for my hubby they are a bit bland which I can...

Cheese to Please!
Advantages: Tasty, easy to make recipes using cheese!
Disadvantages: If you hate cheese you're stuffed!
...Cheese & Leek Cakes.
This is a very tasty and easy to make dish which works well as a vegetarian starter or as part of a main meal. The white stilton with apricots is a good cheese to use because the sweetness of the apricots gives an interesting taste - the crumbly texture of the cheese also goes well too. You can try it with other varieties of cheese if you like, but this is MY favourite! I get my stilton locally from my cheese shop, or direct from the Hartington Cheese shop because they make the most amazing stilton!
~~~WHAT YOU NEED.
450g (1lb) potatoes, peeled and diced
15g (1/2oz) butter
25g (1oz) seasoned flour
A Tasty Cheese
Advantages: very tasty
Disadvantages: shouldn't eat too much cheese! boo!
...I love cheese but like most people I try to watch how much I eat of it and one of my absolute all time favourites is Port Salut.
Port Salut was originally created in 1816 by Trappist monks at the Abbaye du Port Du Salut in Entrammes in the Loire Valley. The brand Port Du Salut was officially registered in 1874 and subsequently became known as Port Salut. Even today it is still made to the same original recipe and was until 2005 still made in the grounds of the Abbaye du Port du Salut.
Available across Europe, Port Salut it is a semi soft pasteurised cow's milk cheese with a distinguishable orange rind and mild tasty flavour. It is most commonly available in a wedge (185 grams) from most major supermarkets and costs around £1.75 - £2.10 dependent on where you buy it. It is also available in a round (320 grams) which retails...
Good old Cheese Straws.
Advantages: The best you'll ever taste
Disadvantages: You'll have to make some more.
...Oh, and please bring lots of your cheese straws....Every time I get an invite to a party or special occasion that's always added. Since the age of about 10 I have been famous for my cheese straws. So I've decided to share.
Firstly I cannot take credit for the recipe. At the tender age of eleven my mum won a book at school. Being the late 50's typically the book was all about the kitchen and explains everything from how to wash up in the correct order to making that important pot of tea. (I never realised you had to warm your tea pot up!) Anyway, I found the book very fascinating, even learnt a few bits, but the cheese straw recipe caught my eye. So I set to work, and soon my talent was born.
As I said I cannot take credit for the recipe, but I think what you use and how you use it makes all the difference. So get your apron on...
