...This...... is the current American Idol Winner. David Cook is the American Idol that nearly never was. He actually was not initially going to try out for the television talent show, he was at the auditions to support his brother but, after some pushing from his brother, decided to audition too. A good decision, because he became the winner of the seventh season of American Idol in 2008. David Cook is classified as a Rock, singer-songwriter. His sound is definitely very rocky, but in my opinion quite soft rock. He has a very deep, raspy voice that lends itself very well to this type of music. What I really like about him is that he can actually play an instrument, unlike a lot of the new pop stars out there today who are just manufactured. ...Less than twelve months since the release of the truly brill "draw the line" album,(September 2009) Mr David Gray spoils us fans with a brand new studio album. The result is "FOUNDLING" The album cover may not jump out at you on the shop shelf, indeed on first glance, it looks like your grandad having an fit, but beneath this lays a gem of an album not to be missed. Advantages: beautifully written, though provoking, reading age anyone from 9 upwards
Disadvantages: plot holes, weird coincidences to drive the story on

The classics we were forced to read for our exams in secondary school were often too boring, heavy going and weighted with long-winded descriptions. The endurance test we underwent has sadly put many of us reading classics and reading in general. It never crossed my mind that at the age of 27 it was shocking that I?d never read a single novel by Dickens. David Copperfield was recommended as an excellent starting point and I repeat that advice now. If memory serves me well, no other book has touched me as much as this novel managed in its 64 chapters. ...Continuing my rummage through my CD collection, I stumbled upon White Ladder by David Gray. As I am all for sharing my musical thoughts I thought would take it upon myself to "educate" those who are the as yet unconverted to the best album made by Mr Gray. Joking aside, this is a great album. For David Gray this was his big breakthrough, in much the same way that Jagged Little Pill was for Alanis Morrisette. Also like Morissette it was by far his most successful album. Argueably he like her, has not since made an album of the same quality or commercial success. ...I am a massive fan of the Calendar Club. Every year I find myself buying several calendars from there, all of which celebrity based. This year I bought myself their Cheryl Cole calendar which I loved. And then for Christmas a friend bought me the 2010 David Tennant calendar, which released a squeal of delight from myself. David Tennant is without a doubt Britain's finest actor. He has just stepped down from his four year role as our Doctor in Doctor Who, and is also loved for his roles in Hamlet, Casanova and the likes. ...David Gray's first album 'White Ladder' was advertised on TV prior to release and the advert built it up in the same way Radioheads 'The Bends ' was touted as the best album ever. I first heard the album at a freinds and was taken by the strength of Gray's vocals in what is a melodic and soulful range of tracks. His distinctive style is like no other that I have heard and coming from a Metal/Thrash background, I was surprised that I liked this album so much. I would reccommend that everybody should listen to this this album and not just rate on the one song that has entered the charts....

Blemish - David Sylvian

Advantages: darkly personal challenging adult electronica
Disadvantages: hard to listen to at times, plus Derek Bailey's atonal guitar

...David Sylvian, the velvet voiced ex singer with Japan, and a solo artist since the early eighties is most well known for his often lush, romantic music. Blemish is nothing like the neo-classical Secrets Of The Beehive, nothing like the ambient rock of Dead Bees On A Cake, nothing like the proto-world music of Words With The Shaman. Blemish was written and recorded very quickly, as Sylvian was in the throes of a very painful separation from his wife and children, and predominantly features just Sylvian himself on all manner of electronica, which buzzes and fizzes most disagreably. Shards of angular guitar crop up courtesy of jazzer Derek Bailey but these are even more atonal than the electronics. The opening title track is a hard to listen to reflection on his break up, lasting 13 minutes! If you can survive this, then...
