BOM JESUS FOR A GOOD EVENING OUT
Advantages: Good local fresh products cooked on site.
Disadvantages: TV screens.
...EATING OUT IN SANTA CRUZ.
When on holiday although we look forward to our Hotel Breakfast, we look forward to having our evening meals out in Local restaurants.
The BOM JESUS SNACK BAR, do not be fooled by the title SNACK BAR.
It is located next to the Chuch of the Same Name BOM JESUS, so is very easy to find, just head for Church.
It is open everyday, except Christmas day, so no worries there.
It has about 10 outdoor tables, with about seating for 36 inside.
Starters on the menu about 6 items, again small does not worry us as it means fresh and cooked on the premises, also some may consider a trifle slow, again a sign of real cooking.
Starters#
Vegtable Soup (Vegitarians be wary it did have some meat in it)
Grilled Limpets (Similar to Cockels, grilled in their shells with plenty of Garlic involved)
Octopus...

Will the Real Jesus Please Stand Up?
Advantages: Thoughtful, scholarly
Disadvantages: A bit polemical in the beginning
...I had the privilege of having Luke Timothy Johnson as my professor in various Christian-themed courses when I was an undergraduate at Indiana University, and hope that I am counted among the ?wonderfully responsive classes of undergraduates at Indiana University? to which he refers in his preface. (p. xiii) These courses were in fact conducted prior to the institution of the Jesus Seminar, but as I read Johnson?s criticism of the Jesus Seminar in this book and other books and articles, I can see that his method of approach (and disdain for much modern scholarship and what passes for scholarship) remain very consistent.
- - -The Jesus Seminar and Other Charlatans- - -
As the word ?charlatan? derives from the Italian cerretano, meaning an inhabitant of Cerreto, a village near Spoleto, Italy, famous for quacks, perhaps Johnson would not...

Jesus Was A Socialist
Advantages: The album contains song of the year
Disadvantages: None
...DAVID MARX
"Jesus Was a Socialist"
From the wildly experimental opening strains of "Revulsion," David Marx makes it perfectly clear that you should leave your expectations at the door as you enter his debut solo soundscape. After this overture of mighty ambient dischord, "Revulsion" propels itself into a dynamite rock anthem, as catchy as anything currently rocketing over the airwaves. Marx then tears into the fury of "Fellatio N.R.A." with a fervor suggested by the song's incendiary title before settling neatly into "Ten Rembrandts," one of the album's best pop songs and should-be smash singles. With this intense one-two-three punch, Marx makes it clear that the gloves are off with this solo project and a startling new multi-talent stakes his claim.
The cleverly titled, "Jesus Was a Socialist," is that neatest of albums...

Was Jesus political?
Advantages: 'The Politics of Jesus' is an ideal 'desert island' choice for anyone interested in Jesus' engagement with politics.
Disadvantages: This is not Yoder's best book. The chapters are of uneven quality and some have been fiercely controverial.
...For anyone who wondered if there was another side to the argument that 'Christians should stay out of politics', John Howard Yoder's classic, 'The Politics of Jesus' is the logical choice. Yoder died in 1997 and in the years following his death there has been no shortage of attempts to sum up his legacy. He was a historian, theologian and ethicist, as well as spokesman for the Mennonite Church on matters of war and peace for many years. However, for many his best known book, 'The Politics of Jesus' remains the chief landmark of his productive life.
'The Politics of Jesus' begins with a simple assertion: that ways have been found to avoid the ethical and political relevance of Jesus, leaving the impression that Jesus' message was somehow otherwordly and 'spiritual' but hardly political. Yoder goes on to show how Jesus proclaimed...

Another one for Christmas...
Advantages: Simple Nativity story
Disadvantages: None
...Sleepy Jesus
A lovely Christmas story for young children. Even the front cover is appealing with Jesus lying in a manger and farm animals gazing into the straw filled manger.
Before we even start the story there is a double page spread of a star filled night sky. Little Miss likes this page, and it gives us an idea that it's going to be a bit of a magical book. The very first page starts with a double page spread showing the shepherds looking in wonder at the sky, and the words "It was Christmas Eve. God was very busy." I really like this page and the description of God mixing the colours for the sunset and pulling down the night sky.
The story goes on in this theme with some lovely descriptions, ensuring we continue feeling magical about the whole thing. While the shepherds are keeping watch over the sheep, God sets the scene...

Jesus' passion - my passion for Jesus.
Advantages: The simple fact that it's about Jesus.
Disadvantages: The sheer scale of blood and vivid scenes.
..., this film is subtitled. The language spoken is Aramaic, Hebrew and Latin. The subtitles are big and easily read, and you will find yourself easily reading the subtitles and watching the film at the same time.
The film opens with Jesus and his disciples in the garden of Gethsemene. His disciples are sleeping while Jesus is praying. The guards are then on the scene to arrest Jesus.
Throughout the film, which is 2 hours long, you will find yourself watching the film and wondering how Jesus could have survived as long as he did. It shook me, physically. It turned my stomach to think that these people wanted him crucified, and stood there watching as he was getting whipped and lashed. Jesus, chained like an animal, was getting whipped by these guards, who stood there laughing in the process.
They mocked him and taunted him as he...

Jesus & Chavs?
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: None
...An Englishman, Irishman and an Australian were having a drink down the pub when they notice a man sitting by himself in the corner.
"I know that man." Says the Aussie.
The other two agree and sit for a while trying to think were they've seen him before, suddenly the Irishman jumps off the barstool and does a little Irish jig.
"I've got it, I know who the fella is, it's only Jesus himself; look at him there with his beard and long robes."
The other two stare in amazement but have to agree that it is the almighty and wanting to get in his good books send the barman over to him with free drinks.
Jesus sits there sipping his malt whiskey and smiles at the Irishman and bows his head, he moves onto his tin of Fosters and gives a polite nod to the Aussie; after finishing the Englishman's gin Jesus walks over to the trio and thanks them...
