Nikon D90 - My Next 'Last' Camera
Advantages: Movies, LiveView, 12.3 mpixels, build quality, excellent lens range
Disadvantages: Still quite bulky for casual use. Expensive if that's all you want it for
...There?s been a legion of digital cameras that have passed through my hands since they started to become a serious contender for 35mm?s domination of the amateur market. Going from memory, they?ve included Philips, Casio, Canon, Nikon and errr?..Nikon. Of course the last one, my first DSLR, a Nikon D70 was going to be the last; but then we all say that don?t we, lads?
What I really meant was ?the last for quite a while?.
LOOKS LIKE THE ?QUITE A WHILE? HAS EXPIRED
Then my daughter started making noises about a night-school class in photography, where the minimum kit requirement just so happened to be a DSLR, and I got to thinking about letting her have the D70 for a ?song?, whilst good ol? Dad treats himself to the later and much higher-specified D90.
Since I bought the D70 four or five years back, things have moved on apace...

A super cool review of the Nikon Coolpix
Advantages: Looks good, durable and a good range of user interactive settings.
Disadvantages: Not the most vivid of colour capture and a few other problems (see review).
...As a professional photographer who is used to using top of the range DSLR cameras, I often worry that I will be a little harsh on simple point and shoot cameras when asked to give my opinion on them. Last week when I was asked to test the Nikon Coolpix S560 and give my opinion on it for my camera club, I was determined to do so with an open mind because as well as thinking I can be harsh on point and shoots, I am also not Nikon`s biggest fan.
The Nikon Coolpix S560 is the latest in a range of Nikon point and shoot digital cameras and a direct step up from the Coolpix S550. In my opinion this was released a bit quickly after the S550 and it makes me wonder if Nikon were ever truly happy with the 550 that they felt the need to release its successor within just a few months of it being released itself.
In the camera market however...

My experience of the Nikon D90 as an amateur photographer.
Advantages: Excellent picture quality, lots of useful features, well designed controls, great kit lens
Disadvantages: More expensive than some other DSLRs, quite big and heavy, limited movie mode
... How I made my choice
I recently bought the D90 to upgrade from my Olympus 560UZ bridge camera, so this is my first foray into DSLR photography. Most people starting in DSLR photography will opt for the cheaper D40, or the D60, D70 and D80. I am not particularly rich, and in the end chose the D90 because I didn't want to grow out of the smaller DSLR and have to buy a new body quickly. I have found that the prices of Nikon DSLRs haven't decreased significantly over the last 3 years, so I decided (maybe wrongly) that this option would save me money in the long run. I found that it is very important to go into a shop and hold the camera in your hands before making a choice. All the photography shop assistants said that the Canon series was just as good as the Nikons, but I discounted them because I didn't get on with the feel...

The Nikon D90 is a fantastic camera for beginners or enthusiasts.
Advantages: Easy to use, light, useful in most situations
Disadvantages: No compact flash card slot
...which you can keep it on.
It's reasonably resistant to dust, light rain and such keeping it versatile for everyday use.
Compatibility:
A point well worth making I feel - this is one place this camera really wins, it will work with any Nikon lenses made, and nearly all it will autofocus with, making it a perfect option for those with lenses already in their kit, or wishing to pick up some of the cheaper lenses available.
The only potential bad points for some people about this camera may be the lack of a full-frame sensor, however most people won't notice any difference in everyday use, and this comes in a lot cheaper and lighter than any full-frame camera will.
It also doesn't take CF cards, which whilst not a major issue, many people prefer them to using SD cards.
Overall though, a beautiful camera, and well worth the pricetag!

Nikon D80

...Advantages: Easy to use.
Disadvantages: Having to use a viewfinder to take a shot.
I brought this camera body as a second camera when starting up a wedding photography business ( since closed ).
Much like Nikon's other camera bodies, this one is easy to use but unlike the very latest Nikon's it won't allow you to use the screen on the back to take the photograph. In a rather archaic way you need to look through the viewfinder to line up your shot thus increasing your eye wrinkles and lines!!
Other than this the display is plenty large enough, and I don't believe that it is too heavy for it's size in fact I find it very comfortable to hold.
It also consistently provides clear images although so can my little Panasonic Lumix compact camera and that wasn't quite as expensive!
Tips for the amature, always remember to press down...

Nikon D40x
Advantages: Quality Pictures, Easy to use, Compact
Disadvantages: Price but still worth it for a decent camera
...** Nikon D40x Digital SLR **
This is my first digital SLR camera I really like taking pictures of mainly our families dogs and cars my main hobbies, my other half had previously had been using a digital SLR that belonged to his dad, so we both went a long to Jessops that is well know for selling really good photography stuff.
We had a look at various models of camera including the Canon Eos 400d which is one of this cameras biggest rival models, also looked at four or five other digital SLR models. Then eventually we started looking at the Nikon D40x my other half knew someone who had the previous model to this the Nikon D40 which had been really good, the other half had used it previously and found it a really good quality camera. So after a lot of really useful and helpful advice from the shop assistant in Jessops we chose...

Nikon F80
Advantages: Lightweight and Easy to use piece of Craftsmanship
Disadvantages: Perhaps not a durable as previous models
...Nikon have expertise in camera manufacture and development that is not really comparable to other makes. They have developed their own metering systems and methods that others have just copied. The F80 continues this tradition and it really is a magnificent camera for both the Professional and the Non-Professional.
Lets talk about ergonomics later and start with what this camera can do to take pictures - the reason for buying it!
Firstly, any image quality you get from this camera is far superior to any digital camera if you are comparing two photographs taken by the same photographer, even if they are using the best digital camera available. Film is better because digital camera do not yet have the right number of pixels or quality of pixels at an affordable price. Having said that the quality of the image depends on the film...

I loved it, you might as well like Nikon D40
Advantages: Excellent pictures, handy
Disadvantages: Read the review
...I have very bad date with Samsung E15 for a start with dSLRs and to be true my whole idea of using DSLRs was jolted. But I thought since professionals? use dSLRs there is nothing to loose heart and it also taught me that good things don?t come cheap. I decided to for good entry level dSLR and one of m friends suggested me Nikon D40 and I trusted him and got it. It did quite a bit of harm to my wallet but it was worth it.
Before writing any thing I must say that Nikon D40 is extremely cute and pretty. I don?t think the pros will be at all dissatisfied with it since Nikon D40 shoots such good pictures in the hands a of a rookie like me, wonder what a pro can do with it. It is very user friendly and the friendliest part for novice like me is that Nikon D40 has several option displaying current shooting info in spite of the fact...

Light as the Air, Nikon D60
Advantages: Very small and light, wide range of Nikon lenses
Disadvantages: Slow Autofocus
... Nikon D60
The Camera Itself
Here it is, the slightly higher than entry level digital SLR from Nikon. On paper it seems very similar to many other similar priced cameras. So in this review, I dig a little deeper to see if there is enough difference to put you out of pocket.
First thing you will notice is the size of the body. It is impressively small, very good for travel photography and in general circumstances. The bodies? grip will fit the contours of your hand well even if you have large hands, like myself. The 10.2 megapixel sensor is expected, but possibly may have benefited from upping to 12 megapixels or more. As beginner to enthusiast photographers develop they will be left wanting more pixels to suffice their needs. The manufacturers? website states it also includes, ?Active D-Lighting.? This is said to...

Nikon D80 DSLR + 18-135mm Nikkor lens
Advantages: perfect grip, large prismatic viewfinder
Disadvantages: doesn't have internal memory
... Nikon D80
My first real DSLR camera, which I have become addict to even if it requires me to learn a lot and keep challenging myself into operating it better and better ammoed with knowledge.
It had been my dream to own a SLR camera, I've always had a passion for the big cameras and I was jealous of the pro photographers and the pictures they got.
When I was little, my parents had an old Czech-made camera including all the stuff you need to develop the pictures yourself at home and so we were always full of photographs of me and my brother, that's where I started to love the stuff. Unfortunately the old equipment doesn't work anymore and my first camera was a simple automatic one and even if I liked to take pictures, I soon found out how expensive it was to have them developed and to buy new and new films. Now, in the age...
