MyPoints is yet another loyalty reward site where users are rewarded for visiting certain web sites, taking up offers and answering surveys. It operates in much the same way as ipoints and, as with the Ciao/DooYoo split, members are often loyal to one or the other.
MyPoints Europe went live in the UK in September 2000 and since that date has grown in popularity. The plan is to expand the network over an 18 month period. Permission marketing is a growing industry with young internet users being seen as an untapped source of income for many major companies. Schemes such as MyPoints allow companies access to a wide group of people and allows for the use of interactive advertising rather than plain old traditional media plugs.
~@~@~@~ The Website ~@~@~@~
The website is extremely easy to navigate and is pleasing on the eye. It has a modern appearance and although there is extensive advertising (after all this is what the site is based on) it does not spoil the site, rather it is enhancing. The menus are intuitive and the links obvious.
~@~@~@~ The Rewards ~@~@~@~
Levels of reward differ according to the activity undertaken. Clicking through an email link or answering a brief survey may earn you 10 points, signing up to a mail order programme may earn you 200 - it all depends upon the advertiser. As ever the higher the reward the more attractive the prospects and the more likely people are to "click-through" but you don't get anything for nothing in this life and if there are high rewards there are often high costs.
Points can be redeemed for a variety of high street vouchers subject to a minimum points balance of 750. 750 points will get you a £5 voucher, 1350 £10 and so on. If you have the confidence to amass points you get more money for your points but there's not really enough in it to worry about. The variety of vouchers that you can get is very impressive and includes Sainsburys', Oddbins, Dixons, Woolworths, Bella Pasta, Virgin and so on. Unlike ipoints you cannot get "non-voucher" items although this suits me.
~@~@~ Earning ~@~@~
I have found in the past that points are fairly easy to amass. In general I will get 5 or so emails a month (50 points) and there will be opportunities to earn at the site itself. In the past month or so however, the earning opportunities seem to have diminished. Emails are less frequent and there is only one "free" MyPoints available at the moment (contrast with 15 or so partners in the start) - all other points must be earned through spends and the dissemination of information.
~@~@~@~@~ Customer Service ~@~@~@~@~
I have only had one occasion to contact the customer support team but I must say that I was not impressed. It took an age and several follow up emails to get a response to them about a voucher that I had applied for. The voucher did eventually arrive with a simple compliments slip.
My account, as with others, benefited from a deposit of 4200 MyPoints from nowhere a couple of months back - unfortunately MyPoints noticed and these were deducted from our accounts again - only problem is that my account now shows a negative balance! How is this possible - I don't know!
~@~@~@~ The Verdict ~@~@~@~
MyPoints used to be worth it but I fear that its days may be short-lived unless someone injects some enthusiasm into the site again. As with any loyalty reward scheme if you lose your loyal customers you will never succeed. In times of economic belt tightening the demise if sites such as these is almost inevitable.
To get the most out of this site (and any other loyalty sites) here are my Top Ten Tips (becoming a bit of a regular for me!):
1 - Sign up to every site you have time for, if you have limited time concentrate on the sites you know pay;
2 - Visit the sites regularly - once a month is never enough - you will miss out on fleeting offers;
3 - Accept offers as soon as they become available - you never know how long they will last;
4 - Read the terms of individual offers carefully - there may be a loop that allows you to qualify for a reward without spending anything;
5 - Click through links on emails - you don't have to wait for the page to load fully;
6 - Fill in any surveys that are sent to you - not only will they reward you you may also be targeted for other products;
7 - Make the most of referral programmes but be careful not to be caught spamming - you will lose everything;
8 - Never disclose your user ID and password - treat it as you would your bank account;
9 - You don't earn interest on your points so cash in regularly - you never know when the site may go belly-up; AND
10 - ENJOY IT - THERE IS MONEY TO BE MADE BUT NOT OVERNIGHT SO YOU MAY AS WELL ENJOY YOURSELF!
Advantages: Free points Disadvantages: Very low payout, Takes ages to physically earn something
I joined MyPoints last month after reading several opinions on this site. I went in with high expectations and was truly and utterly disappointed after I used the site. If you are in it for the sake of obtaining reward points for free, in this case I mean without actually purchasing anything, then MyPoints gives you the following earning options: 1) Visiting Web Sites 2) Completing Surveys 3) Try It Out 4) Refer-A-Friend 5) Receiving e-mail containing ... ...Everything sounds really great so far but when you look into each earning option in greater detail, you then begin to realize the drawbacks. Visiting Web Sites ---------------------- At present in this section you have only two possibilities. One is “Free Business Cards” for which you will earn 10 points and the second one is “NetBet Sports.com” for which you will also earn 10 points. Total: 20 Points Completing Surveys ---------------------- ...

MyPoints is another online reward site just like Ipoints or WebRewards (although, WebRewards will be closing down at the end of July 2001). You earn points for visiting web sites, shopping with retailers’ partners, read and respond to MyPoints e-mails and also for taking surveys. I joined MyPoints back in September last year, and since then, this reward site has got bettererer and bettererer! • Navigation and Loading The log-in/sign-up ... ...also gives you a good idea what the rest of the site has in store. It also boasts three reliability seals (of which two are current). Reading the ‘Privacy Promise’ is quite reassuring, with their address and phone number for all to see (I’ve not had to contact them any other way but e-mail, so I haven’t actually checked that this is kosher). Once you have signed in (it remembers your details, so you’ll have to enable ...

Advantages: Free to use, something for nothing Disadvantages: Takes a long time to earn a small amount.
MyPoints.co.uk is yet another money-making opportunity that has opened up on the internet. However, unlike sites such as I-points, Dooyoo, Consumer Reviews and Ciao, the speed at which you add up points are very much dictated to you, rather than you being able to go off and earn as many as you can.
Registration to the site is simple, just simply supplying the usual contact information. You then have several choices on how to earn points, which convert ... ...spend the point you earn, there really aren't that many opportunities to earn points in the first place.
So how can you earn the points? Firstly you can visit web sites. Easy. You go the relevant page on the MyPoints site, and click on the links to the web sites that are being advertised. You get 10 points for visiting, and may, or may not, get more points for doing something on the site, such as registering, betting or buying. Originally when I ...

Mypoints can be found at mypoints.co.uk for English users. It is a reward program where you earn points, not money. When your points total up, you can exchange them for gift vouchers for almost every high street shop of your choice. 750 will earn you a £5 gift voucher, and 1350 will get you a £10 gift voucher. So it pays to save as you get more money for your points. You can earn up to £25 gift vouchers, but personally I wouldn't recommend this as ... ...Earning the points - This can be done is a number of different ways. The easiest way is to fill in all the possible mypoints questionnaires at the start. This will get your balance rolling as there are about 100 points to be earned at one. After that however, its a little more difficult.
You can earn points for reading mypoints emails and simply viewing certain websites (with no obligation to sign up or buy anything). This will earn you 5 or 10 ...

...anyway.
The theory behind mypoints.co.uk is by visiting various websites, making purchases from advertised retailers or entering the lottery run alongside mypoints - thedailydraw.com - you amass reward points. These points, after accruing enough, can be exchanged for either charitable donations, money-off vouchers for almost any store in Britain or freebie items.
