www. MySpace.com..
***********************
One of the largest sites of it's kind on the net. In the search engine it is described as a virtual community site allowing members the chance to network and meet new people from all over the world. It also has a huge music base, allowing bands to share their
Music with their fans and communicate with their promoters. From the bands pages you can also add their songs to your page, from their music player. So when some-one accesses your homepage, as they scroll down to view your details, the song will begin to play. This adds atmosphere to your page.

The sign-up process
******************

The sign-up process is very straightforward. Like most sites it's just a case of inputting
Your personal details and email address. Your town or city is important if you wish to communicate with people local to you, as your location will be shown on your page.
In addition you will also be given your own domain, so very important to choose this name carefully, as once it is set, it cannot be changed. All other details can be changed
Once you have joined.

Once a member,
******************
Once you have joined you have the option to add a photo to your page. Also to store other pictures, which can be viewed by other members. And a comment left about said photo. This can be quite funny seeing some of the comments. But it is quite easy to delete
Comments you are not happy with.

Comments can only be left by your friends once you have added them. Nobody else will be able to comment. But other members will be able to send you a MySpace email. If you find you are having a problem with anyone, you have an option to block them.

You also have an option to approve comments before they go on your page. Which is probably quite a good idea. You can make any of your photos your default picture. And it's just a case of ticking a box to change it. You can also up-load videos to your page.

You have your own blog page where you can record daily events, like a diary. Write stories, jokes, poetry, whatever you like really. This also can be read by your friends. And again, a comment can be placed. And kudos given to the piece.

You can also post Bulletins. They are automatically sent to all your friends' pages. These are great, and save you from sending loads of emails.

You also have a calendar and an address book. And an events invitation box.

Adding Friends
*******************.
On joining a friend called Tom is automatically added to your friends list. He is your contact should you have any major problems. All else to be sorted out from the help pages. Tom Anderson was the creator of Myspace along with his friend Chris De Wolfe.

To add friends just browse profiles. Or if you know someone's MySpace address just type it in the search bar, and on their profile page, under their photo, you have an option: Add to friends. It's as simple as that. Your top friends will show in a special box on your profile page for all too see up to a figure of 24. And all other friends are separate.
You can change your top friends at any time. And you can delete friends quite easily.

Your profile page.And HTML.
********************************
When you join you are given a plain white page, with all your details on. Which a lot of people just leave as it is. If you want to make it a bit more interesting, you can go to one of the many excellent sites to choose a background layout. Once you have chosen, just copy the Html and paste into your section 'about me'. All this is explained in the MySpace tutorials. It's not hard to do, and it's great fun. I can recommend Pimp-my-profile.com, it has an excellent selection.

You can also add graphics, banners, scrolling text, falling symbols, your own pictures, etc.
You can join a photo and picture site such as Photobucket, for free, and this site will give you Html for any pictures you have grabbed from the net or for your own photos. These can then be pasted onto your own page. It's endless really the amount of fun you can have with this.

Navigation.
**************
The navigation of this site is very easy. Your homepage is where you do all your editing,
Changing of photos, changing of friends, etc. This page is predominantly pale blue and white. Very easy on the eye. At the top of the page you have a list of all options for navigation. Which you just click on. It's straightforward and works well. And is easy to understand. Navigation is smooth and well thought out.

MySpace IM.
****************
MySpace has a brilliant Instant messenger. When you boot up your computer, this will appear on your screen, and any messages, friends' requests, comments, or email will appear, to the sound of a till. I love this! 'Kerching'. And when you are on MySpace it will alert you to anything incoming with the till sound.

Myspace Music.
*******************
This is a Huge part of MySpace! It's a very powerful tool for music and media. And a very influential part of pop culture. Lily Allen, pop-ska songstress, is a prime example of this. From posting 4 songs, and a couple of blogs on her MySpace page. She leaped to Internet fame overnight. Suddenly everyone knew her name, and music, before she had even released a song. The power of the internet is endless. The OMM (Observer music monthly) is now scouring MySpace for the next music sensation. Such is the revolutionary standing MySpace holds.

At the moment I am promoting a band on MySpace, that has been nominated for best un-signed band, with a link to vote for them. They could win this category on Internet votes alone. Enough said!

A little history of MySpace.
*****************************
In 1999 Tom Anderson and Chris De Wolfe started a company called Intermix Media sites. From this in 2003 they re-named one of the sites Myspace. Tom and a handful of computer programmers set up the first pages of MySpace. It re-emerged as a social networking site, gaining huge popularity overnight.

In 2005 Rupert Murdoch, seeing this phenomenon grow, bought them out.

MySpace is located in West Hollywood. California. There is now talk of a UK MySpace
Being set up.

In summing up.
*****************
I think this is a great site. I have made a lot of new friends from here. Simon (Ailran) recommended this site to me. And i'm so glad he did. I had never heard of it!...I have become friendly with local bands. I do a little promotion for them, and we have fantastic nights out too. I have never met anyone from the Internet before, but this site is very professional and as long as you feel comfortable, and check people out a bit, and are happy with it., then why not.

MySpace has 100 million members. And 500,000 new members join every week.
It is the most popular website in the USA. And the 4th most popular English language site in the world.

The site is well designed. Easy Navigation. Great fun. And all for free. The music side to it is fantastic. It is a massive networking community. And a great way to make new friends from all over the world..

Because of it's vast membership, certain hours of the day may become a little slower
On the search options. But nothing too serious. Also MySpace do maintenance to your pages on a regular basis. And you will not be able to access them for a short period. They have had power outages in LA recently, which meant that MySpace was down for a whole weekend. But these instances are few and far between. And considering the size of the website, only to be expected.

If you want to take a look, and maybe join. Come and say Hi! To me. http://www.MySpace.com/xblackmothx
