Advantages: a unique and personal email addy, no spam, regular features, nice uncluttered site Disadvantages: not much
Looking for something a little different? Want an email address that is both reliable and personal? Well look no further than NAMEPLANET.
The idea behind nameplanet is that you can have your own name integrated into an email address. OK So nothing revolutionary in that if your name is in fact Kevin Hotmail. Although I’d guess with all the millions of Hotmail users worldwide you’d only get something like ‘Kevin123_UK@hotmail.com’ ... ...if you really are lucky you probably have a normal name and not ‘Belinda Yahoo’ or ‘Adrian Altavista’ – so a search through Nameplanet could find something suitable. Myself, I took a look and can have the address ‘keith@mayhew.tc’ (don’t ask me what ‘tc’ stands for – AND no suggestions please!)
Some of the name extensions are the regular ones like .net or .com, some ... more

Some of the name extensions are the regular ones like .net or .com, some like the one mentioned above - .tc – are less so, but if they work then who cares?
All you need to do to get your own personalised email is to type in www.nameplanet.com into your browser. You are then presented with an orange and blue homepage – type in your first and last name (or whatever you like) into the boxes that confront you – press ‘check it’….and nameplanet will see what it can offer you.
Some of you regular Ciao members may be interested in the following suggestions: • angus@reid.as OR angus@ciao.reid.as • tom@knowles.tc • sarah@laycock.net And there are a whole lot more – nothing too outlandish, but you might like to see what’s available for you.
One of the bugbears I have with several of my email accounts spread all over the internet is that regular slowness to load or an unavailability of the service. Add to that the speed of receipt of mail – unlike some services I have used where if I know an email has been sent, sometimes it does not arrive till the next day – no problems like that with Nameplanet.
I have used the service on and off for a few months. I regularly check back to see if I’ve been inundated with special offers or friendly propositions of services from ‘helga from germany’ or maybe her twin teenage neighbours. But, fortunately not. So that’s one big thumbs up for Nameplanet – so far…NO SPAM!
All the regular features of an email service come with Nameplanet. Plenty of folders to organise your incoming and sent mail. Pretty much a standard storage size of 5 megabytes. PLUS - there are some WAP enabling features you can incorporate and other services like Greeting cards you can send just by the click of a mouse. And it’s a very clean and uncluttered interface i.e no annoying banner ads all over the screen
It’s not a site like Yahoo or Altavista where there are many other functions like News, Search engine etc – Nameplanet is just an email service and a pretty good one at that.
Advantages: address you get, features Disadvantages: erm can't really think
I tried several free email services and found that the least frustrating was nameplanet. This has led me to the opinion that nameplanet is one of the best of the competing services.
The site provides you with all the usual features you'd expect. All the usual folders for organising your mail -inbox, sent, deleted etc..- and a decent address book, mail filtering and mail colouring to flag certain addresses, views and sends attatchments. The appearance ... ...it is quick, though if it's very busy it can get a bit bogged down. The pages are not stuffed full of banner ads either so it doesn't feel at all cluttered.
I think that nameplanet is a much better email service than say hotmail or yahoo. I have not recieved any spam mail at all. Whilst I was on hotmail before I had even told any one my address I was getting mail from bulk senders. Another huge point in favour of nameplanet is that your email address ...

Advantages: FREE, very cool idea Disadvantages: Only 5mb storage space, but this is adequate for many people
At NamePlanet.com your address is your name. You can use the site in English, German, French, Spanish, Danish, Norwegian or Swedish. Quite a choice.
You can have web-based mail (where you read and send mail from the Nameplanet.com web site) or set it up as a forwarding address. Here I will look at each.
FORWARDING
-----------
You can make it so any emails sent to your Nameplanet email address will go straight to a real address. Maybe the address ... ...to another web-based account with more storage space or better features.
WEB-BASED
----------
This is where you choose to check your mails from www.nameplanet.com - on the web site. Here are the main features of the web-based option...
- 5mb of storage space (pretty meagre)
- Address Book
- Usual web-based mail interface
- Trash Can where deleted messages are stored
I choose to forward to my real address.
If you want to compose mail, you ...

Advantages: speed , ease of use , your own name address Disadvantages: quick to delete emails
i have an email address at this site and use it for several purposes.
but the good thing about it is that the email address that i ahve is actually my name !!!!!!!
every time you go there you need to log in like most types of places like this , once you've logged in then it lists all the latest emails you've recieved and which ones have been read, replied to , etc, etc.
you then read them and have a choice to save them, reply to them , put them ... ...once you've deleted them then they're gone for good and some other sites you can delete them to a folder and then if your sure you just delete that folder...but not here which is a pity.
overall i'm pretty happy with this site and the email address ---not is if you'll forget your own name is it ??
pretty fast to log into and reading the emails is just as good.
and once again once you've finished you log out and this is pretty quick to do aswell. ...
