Well that is the promise of the site. But what is it EXACTLY and how does it rate?
Neopets is, as it states a ‘Virtual pet site’. The idea is to sign up, make a pet and look after it.
Anyone remember those hand held pet ‘thingys’
which were out in huge force a few years ago?. They started off as eggs, they hatched, you had to feed them, play with them, and they died after about 100 days depending on how much you paid for it?.
Well Neopets is similar to this, but much more advanced, much more fun and totally free (Plus your pet keeps on living if you forget to feed it oops!)
Go to the homepage ‘www.neopets.com’ and click on ‘sign up’.
The sign up process is simple. But you do have to be careful, as once you have signed up you tend to get A LOT of junk mail, so be careful what you tick!
Once you have signed up you need to create a ‘pet’. You can choose from a number of different species. My favorite is the ‘Shoyru’. What can I say. It’s cute lol (Think Charmander from Pokemon)
You then have to pick a name. This is getting harder to do because so many people have joined the site. If you are totally stuck then some suggestions will be given to you.
Then you choose the colour. Red, blue, green or yellow.
After this choose what personality your pet has. For example is it friendly, or does it attack others?
When you’ve done all this (Which takes 5 or 10 minutes) your off!!
So what now?
Now you need to look after your pet. You can go to the shops and buy food, clothes, books (to gain higher intelligence levels), toys, cosmetics…the list goes on.
To buy all these goodies you need money or Neopoints (NP) as the Neopet currency is called. You can earn NP a number of ways, such as taking part in surveys and quizzes, or playing games.
There are numerous games, such as card games (A Neopet version of Blackjack) to more ‘action’ orientated ones, which be warned, can take a while to load. My favourite game has to be ‘Kacheek seek’ (Hide and seek). In this you choose a level and a surrounding, and then you have to find your pet. This is a great way to earn NP and the pages do load very quickly.
If you get bored of the games, don’t worry. I haven’t finished yet!. You can also open a bank account, invest in stocks and shares, build a house for your pet, open a shop, do quests for ‘Faeries’ to get all sorts of rewards, send your pet to school and send it into the Battledome. I haven’t actually been into the Battledome yet, but from what I hear it is a similar idea to Pokemon where your pet can fight against others.
So have I done yet? well nearly lol
Apart from interaction with your pet, you can also interact with other members. You can chat to them, send them messages through ‘Neomail’ and also send them items such as food if your feeling generous!.
This is a great feature, as you can make some friends online who are also addicted to the site lol.
So what’s the point I hear you ask
Well….actually…I’m not too sure lol. I signed up for this site after a friend recommended it to me. At first I was put off by the fact it’s supposed to be for kids, but I have to say it is SO easy to get hooked.
The novelty doesn’t really wear off because the site is constantly updated and new features are always been added (The latest being that your pet can get a job).
The site is very bright, colourful, quick and the site is very easy to use.
I would recommend this site to anyone who wants a bit of light-hearted fun, and of course children who will find it educational.
Advantages: Fun Educational Rarely gets boring due to new features Easy to use
Disadvantages: A lot of adverts on the site Beware of junk mail TOO EASY TO GET ADDICTED!

i started on neopets just over a year ago now.theres so much to do you just never get bored.they're always adding new games and new items to buy and win so i agree TOTALLY addictive.and im 30 lol.

Advantages: constant updates, easy to navigate, good layout, fun, lots of variety Disadvantages: too many sponsor sign ups, scammers trying to get your account!
