So many people have written an opinion on neopets that there’s barely any point in me doing so, but I've been playing it all morning and realising I needed a break I've decided I should leave the site and write an opinion on it.
Neopets, a site that allows you to own your very own virtual pet, has over 30 million users worldwide and that number is currently growing as it becomes more and more popular. It simple and easy to use and caters for adults and children alike, believe it or not but there is apparently more adult pet owners on the site than child pet owners.
When signing up, firstly you chose one out of four age groups. They are under 8, 9 - 12, 13 - 17 and over 18. I have no idea what is available in the over 18 site and the only thing I'm aware of with the under 13 groups is that you need parental consent to be able to become a member. I am 17 and have been using the site for 2 years
so I have a very good understanding of the 13 - 17 site.
After Choosing an age group you are taken to a sign up page where you are asked for a username, password, your email address, your home address, your date of birth and gender. (Dont worry about recieveing junk mail, I've had no problems at all). Then agreeing to the terms and conditions you get to choose your pet.
There are 46 pets available ranging from cute little bunnies to small dragons but some are restricted or limited editions. If the pet is restricted it means that you can only own that pet after doing a task while playing neopets. If it’s limited edition only a certain amount of people will be allowed that pet that day, so if you cant get the pet you want you could always try another day. Clicking on the pet you like you are then asked to give that pet a name and a gender. Then you can pick one of four colours, blue, red, green and yellow for your pet. After doing this if the username you have chosen for your pet is not in use you are directed straight to Neopia.
Neopia is the virtupet world. Here there is 10 different neopet lands that you can visit.
1) Neopia central - This is the centre of neopia (obviously). 2) Terror Mountain - This is a huge snow covered mountain where you can explore three different places. Happy valley at the bottom of the mountain, the mountain top, and the ice caves which is behind the mountain. 3) Tyrannia - A prehistoric world, where you can visit Tyrannian jungle and the Tyrannian plateau. 4) Virtupets space station 5) Mystery Island - I'm still not sure what so mysterious about this island, it seems just a tropical paradise to me. 6) Krawk Island - This is a small pirate island just off the coast of mystery island. 7) Faerieland - This is a haven in the clouds where all magical fearies come from. 8) Lost desert - The theme of this land is based on ancient Egypt. 9) Haunted woods - A spooky Halloween world. 10) Meridell - This is has only just been set up on neopets. It's a medieval land from the past.
Each of these lands give you the opportunity to play games, do quests, explore, and buy things such as clothes, food, toys, etc, with Neopoints.
Neopoints are the neopet currency. You are given 250Nps to begin with but you can earn more by playing games, getting a job, doing quests, or by opening a shop and selling the things you buy (or find) for a profit. Unfortunately you can not change Neopoints for real currency.
On the site there is also a chance to auction or bid for things, you can trade with other neopet owners, you can join guilds, and you can make neofriends and chat to them at neopets very own chat room.
There is no particular object to the game, you could either us neopets to take advantage of the games that it has on offer, or you could play as I do. I like to take care of my neopets, and earn loads of Nps so that I can but wicked things for them.
Since I have been a user for so long I've learnt some of the tricks of the trade. Its always really good to haggle madly with the shop owners because you will always find that they are willing to knock loads off the price of something if you just stick to your guns. If your looking to make loads of Nps then always play a variety of games which allow you to win big neopoints, each day. You will always manage to win some neopoints and if you’re really good your pet might win an award. Another useful tip is to play games that involve the luck of the draw. These are usually free and there is always a very good chance that you'll walk away with something even if it's not the main prize.
The sites graphics are brilliant. All the pets are 2D, and the games vary between 2D and 3D graphics. The site graphics don’t take to long to load but waiting for a game to load can take sometimes up to a couple of minutes
The only disadvantages I can think of is that about twice a week after pressing a link in neopets I have a message telling me that the site will be closed for a few minutes for some reason or another. I find that if I press the back button and click the link again nothing is wrong and I get directed to where I want to go. This can get really annoying if it happens a few times a week.
So give it a visit because I know you’ll be loving every minute on the site, just don’t get to attached and enjoy.
