Advantages: Ease of use, reliability, features Disadvantages: None
Most of us have our permanent e-mail accounts and most of us also prefer having an additional e-mail address with a free e-mail provider.
I decided several years ago to get an additional e-mail address so as to avoid receiving firstly junk mail on my main e-mail account, which arises when you sign up for various web based rewards programs, and secondly to have a second e-mail address for convenience purposes.

I decided several years ago to get an additional e-mail address so as to avoid receiving firstly junk mail on my main e-mail account, which arises when you sign up for various web based rewards programs, and secondly to have a second e-mail address for convenience purposes.
The first name that usually comes to mind when you think “free e-mail” is Hotmail and naturally my first impulse was to go there. However I was regularly receiving messages from one of my friends in South America with a very convenient e-mail address of “hisname@usa.net”
So I decided to check out “Net Address” who were the ones providing this service.
I was very impressed.
There are many features that this free e-mail provides, both to the new user and more experienced users, some of which I will try and list as follows:
The actual e-mail address ------------------------------- The simplicity of our user name is one of the main attractions. It’s just “yourname@usa.net”. This is not an address that you would tend to forget, unlike many others that have complicated addresses.
Reliability ------------- They service and upgrade their system regularly, on average once a month, and they provide you with sufficient prior notice, usually a couple of days in advance. They usually only take about 3 to 4 hours to do this and since they are based in the USA, this does not affect us users in the U.K., as it’s done in the morning USA time which is in the middle of the night our time. Since my two years of using this service I have never ever known the system to crash or have never ever been not able to access my e-mail account.
Services provided ---------------------- 1) You get 5 MB of memory for your e-mail account. If you ever want to increase this, which is doubtful since this should be your secondary e-mail address, then this can be done by making a nominal payment. 2) Junk Mail Blocker – Just select the e-mail addresses that you want blocked and these are filtered out. 3) Stationery, Auto responders and Scheduling are some of the other services offered. 4) You also have the feature where you can collect your mail from up to five other POP3 e-mail accounts and these will be marked distinctively in your Inbox.
User Friendly ---------------- This service is the most easiest to use. Especially for new users. It is very straightforward and totally uncomplicated.
Security ---------- There are many security features available and these can be easily selected once logged on.
Overall I think that this is the easiest and most reliable free e-mail service provider around.
The company that is offering this service is USA.NET, who are a global e-messaging provider. Many large companies deal with them for this purpose such as American Express, Palm and Saturn.
The free e-mail setup manages 30 million messages a day and this is one indication of their popularity worldwide.
They are also the pioneers in web based e-mail services and they invented it in 1996.
If you’re looking for a new free e-mail account or are not satisfied with the one that you presently have go to:
Advantages: ease of use, v.reliable Disadvantages: none really
If netaddress was better marketed, it would now be the no.1 company for free web based email. Why it isn't, isn't really your or my problem but having used it for 5 years now, I can heartily recommend it.
So why?
1. Reliability.
Every other month or so, they upgrade their system but they let you know. In the meantime, you can't access your mail, but it is very, very rare that their system crashes.
- ease of use
The mail system was made for monkeys, ... ...thing
- security
On logging in to the mail system, you can select a variety of security options, so this is down to you.
2. Services offered
You get a 5MB capacity mailbox, which can be increased upon payment.
Netadress offers the following services (copied in from the site). They used to charge for some of these, looks like they don't now. Collecting: Collect email messages from other POP3-compliant email accounts and consolidate them in your ...

Advantages: Like Jack Benny: I'm thinking, I'm thinking. Disadvantages: One or two of the many are described in the review.
I have had an account with netaddress for about 8 years. For what it offers, it is not competitive with Google. Every month there is a problem with netaddress - currently I can't access my account because it announces that:
"Secure Connection Failed www.netaddress.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate will not be valid until 2/15/2008 6:22 PM.
(Error code: sec_error_expired_certificate)
* This could be a problem with the server's ... ...server.
* If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later."
No doubt this will be solved in a day or so - meanwhile I can't access my site. And when it is solved, some new debacle will arrive. The only reason I keep paying the thing is that it's on business cards and stationery and around and about, making it inconvenient to do anything but curse.
I'm supposed to say what I ...

Review of netaddress.com
Advantages: Good uptime... Disadvantages: Everything else is mediocre at best
Probably one of the oldest webmail services out there. I've had an address since 1996, and can't really see anything special about it. Their service has hardly been upgraded since I started using it. It offers the usual features (POP pickup, etc) and the 5Mb space is quite enough for most users.
It can be a bit daunting logging in - you will almost certainly get an "Intrusion Detected" notice every time. Why that happens, and why they haven't fixed ... ...to use cookies instead which will eliminate those errors, but it still shouldn't be necessary.
Thankfully, it has a good uptime, and any problems that may occur are well noted in advance. Anyway, why would someone from the United Kingdom want a usa.net email address? Still, useful for a backup I suppose. ...

Advantages: quick Disadvantages: no free option to forward mail
Net address offers in my opinion the most reliable email service on the web. I have never had performance problems using this unlike any other email services. netaddress offers all if not more utilities than other mail users. The time from sending from one server to netaddress is very quick it comes up instantly. Technical support is well documented and if there is going to be an outage users are notified days in advance. Registration is simple and ...
