I came across this, when I decided to build a website. I was advised to try netscape as it has a built in composer, that is simple to use.

This program has a lot of features, but i am going to concentrate on the composer aspect. It is easy to use and understand and ideal for beginners, like me. It is also suitable for people who are more advanced at building websites, as it has all the tools most other packages have, but it is free.

*******************HOW DO I GET IT********************

Go to www.netscape.com

Here you will be able to download the program netscape communicator. There are several versions of this program, but the most recent is version 6. All of the versions are free.

I have a 56k modem and the download time was about an hour. Installing it will take about another 30 minutes.

**********************WHAT IS IT**********************

Netscape communicater is a browser. It is similar to internet explorer. You are able to surf the net, have email acccounts and use the other programs with in it. One of these being netscape composer. This program allows you to design as many websites as you like. This is a built in program, so it can be located under the tasks heading on the homepage.

Once you have selected the composer, it will open up in a seperate window, for you to use.

*****************ABOUT THE COMPOSER*******************

This is a program, solely for designing websites. It is simple to use and easy to understand. It is great for total beginners, but advanced users would also get use out of it.

The composer allows you to design websites, without any knowledge of html or design skills.

You can type text directly on to the page and then edit it from there. You can change the size, font, colour and stlye, all at the click of the mouse.

It also allows you to add links, images, tables and pictures with no effort from you at all.

It has a comprehensive selection of help files. hey cover every aspect you will come across, and they are easy to follow.

**********************APPEARANCE********​**************

When netscape composer is loaded, it is very pleasing to the eye. It is not at all intimidating.

Along the top of the page, is the task bar and some buttons. These are contained within a grey box. Under this, the rest of the page is white. This is where you begin construction.

The grey box contains all the tools you will need when designing a site and they are very simple to use.

***********************FEATURES*********​**************In the grey box, you will a list of headings at the top. These are:

• File
• Edit
• View
• Tools
• Help

These allow you to access everything easily. Here you can open, save, change page, insert and adjust your designs.Below the list of headings, you will see a row of buttons. These are:

• New
• Open
• Print
• Link
• Image
• Anchor
• Tables
• Spelling
• Cut
• Copy
• Paste

These buttons are short cuts. They allow you to easily add content to your site. They make it extremely easy for inserting links and images, as it is all done with one click of the mouse.Below these short cuts you will find another row, of buttons.

These buttons are for the text that you have on your site. You will find:

• Font type
• Text size
• Text colour
• Bold
• Italic
• Page alignments
• Bullets
• Headings

When you highlight your text, adjustments can be made, by clicking on these buttons.The composer allows you to do all of this, with no mention of html. You can if you want to, design your site in html. It does allow you to switch between views and work on them both. For beginners though, you can create a whole site, with out worrying about html and whether you have it right. The composer converts everything in to html for you.

For the more advanced user, this pogarm would also be good. As you can toggle between html and your design, you can adjust things more precisely, if you know what you are doing.

**********************EASE OF USE*********************

This is the sort of program you can sit down to, and get started with straight away.

It is easy to follow and simple in design. Everything is self explanatory. All the tools you need, are located together and they are easy to use.

Somebody who knows nothing about building websites, like myself, will NOT feel intimidated by the appearance of this program. It is definately user friendly.

The layout of the composer is pleasing to the eye, and everything is clearly labeled.

**********************MY OPINION**********************

If you want to design a website, but are a little unsure of where to start, use netscape composer. I whole heartedly recommend it.

I knew nothing about website creation, but after four days I had a five page website on the net. It has animations, graphics, text, links, guestbook, counter and much more. I managed to do all of this, with just this one program and I have a website that I am proud of. There are no limitations in this program, you can do what you want.

The appearance is definatly welcoming. Everything is easy to find and use and the help files are brilliant. This is a fantastic program, for all who wish to create a website.

Not having to know html, was a real bonus for me. I created my whole site, without seeing any. You just place evereything on the pages, and the composer converts it into html on another page. ou can then view this page if you want to.

For me, this is a great progam, that provides me with everything I need, for FREE. I am a total beginner, but feel right at home using netscape composer.

if you have always wanted to make a site, but haven't got around to it, download this program. You will have a great looking website in days. Trust me, it is that simple.
