Reality has been replaced by a replica of itself
Review of A Critical and Cultural Theory Reader - Antony Easthope, Kate McGowan by Amadahn

Advantages: Fascinating concepts / lots of useful stuff
Disadvantages: For a very specialist audience

...most people would rather wrestle a rabid wombat than read an op about Critical Theory. As a result, and in order to protect the wild and secret wombat population of the UK, my ethics leave me no choice but to write this very op that you are now wishing you had never started to read in the first place. ~WHY CRITICAL THEORY?~ This book was compiled as a central text for the MA in Critical Theory at Manchester Metropolitan University. Since this was ...
...one of the editors and a well-known figure in the field of LitCrit, taught on the course but was taken ill in my second year and sadly died a short while later. Well, in the further corners of the field of Science lurks a group of pasty individuals with sweaty palms and eyes ... Read review

Phil uncovered
Review of Philip Lynott (The Rocker) - Mark Putterford by Lauren007

Advantages: Everything you could ever want to know
Disadvantages: Slightly upsetting in places

This is quite a significant book to me. I grew up listening to Thin Lizzy and being Irish, my whole family was totally in love with their music. Phil Lynott was such a complex character I felt I owed it to him to read this book, just to prove that there was more to him than just the drugs. I learnt so much about him and the band that at points I felt I knew them. It was strange to think that if only Phil had stopped the drugs, he'd still be here. ...

It was amazing, it ... Read review
