Jehosaphat ! !
Review of Isaac Asimov by exup35

Advantages: suitable for all ages no violence, sex swearing
Disadvantages: longer books may be a bit hard going for some

Isaac Asimov ------------------ His name hinting at the authors heritage, Isaac Isimov is of Jewish descent. Born in Smolensk, Russia, his family moved to the USA in the period between the two world wars. By mistake, this was thought that his family fled Russia, but this is not the case. Isaac grew up helping to run his parents sweet shop, and was no doubt gifted as a young child. Picking up reading and writing very early in life. his autobiography ...
...life, and on to university Isaac went from being an exceptional student, to being a very bright one. Was this to do with what and where interests really lay? Even not knowing what he may want to do himself, and the conflicts between what held his interest and what he studied at school? There was an explosion of Science Fiction magazines when Isaac was in his teens / early twenties, and Isaac began writing letters to some of these, sometimes with ... Read review

A Great Canadian Authoress
Review of Margaret Atwood by denella

Advantages: Wonderful writing
Disadvantages: None for me

I discovered Margaret Atwood rather late in life, but as the saying goes, better late than never. One of my students had 'A Handmaid's Tale' as a set book for AS level English literature, and so this was my introduction to this wonderful authoress. I have since read my way through several of her novels, and am currently nearing the end of 'Negotiating the Dead', a non-fiction work about writing itself. Born in Ottawa in 1939, Atwood's infancy was ...
...her brother congratulated her. Margaret Atwood's writing career spans three decades, beginning in 1969 with her novel 'The Edible Woman' and reaching a climax with the award of the Booker Prize for 'The Blind Assassin' in the year 2000. For me it is easy to see why the prestigious prize was awarded to 'The Blind Assassin': it is a brilliant combination of two novels. In the first, Iris Griffen relates the story of her family between the two world ... Read review

Review of Rosie Thomas by mothd

Advantages: mystery in maine
Disadvantages: expected slighly more on conclusion

...and couldnt but it down. Rosie Thomas's unique perceptions about the human character, whether young or old, male or female, kept me enthralled throughout. I love the mystery that she brings to her novels, and remember reading Potters House with equal enjoyment. However, this book just makes me want to spend my summers in a white clap boarded house on the untamed coast of Maine, and meet the characters that the author creates who seem to 'walk' out ...
...youth! How perceptive of Rosie Thomas to highlight the passions and dreams of first love that is evident in Doone. I loved the William/Sarah twist which was completely unexpected, although I worked out Marty from the first photograph of May playing volleyball. Overall, this was wonderful escapism and I shall miss it. Tomorrow I plan to go to the bookshop and buy another of Rosie Thomas's brilliantly crafted novels. ... Read review

To die for
Review of Stephenie Meyer by Happyjaw

Advantages: Her writing affects readers in ways so few books can
Disadvantages: It all becomes rather addictive

...encountered the first book by Stephenie Meyer quite by accident, I was browsing in Waterstones, looking for something easily digested and fantastical. I'm an adult, a mother in fact, but I don't rule out teen fiction as a potential genre. I read Twilight very quickly, entirely consumed by the power of the story and the depth of characters. I was impressed by her writing style, a fluid experience with vast emotive capacity which was entirely fulfilled. ...
...the already insane boundary but Stephenie Meyer handles it well, making reality of the character and effortlessly sliding the new character into every crucial element of the story arc. New Moon is harshly barren, devoid of the phenomenal depth of emotion for the majority of the book, reflecting events and keeping the reader on tenterhooks. This was shortly before the third book, Eclipse, was released and the UK date was somewhat later then the ... Read review

Trudi Canavan
Review of Trudi Canavan by JamieJCO

Advantages: Great writing, long books, trilogys allow in depth detail.
Disadvantages: Only 6 books!

Trudi Canavan is an Australian born fantasy writer. Her first full length published book was the "Magician's Guild", the first part of "The Dark Magician Trilogy". These books revolve around a slum girl Sonea and her difficult and unlikely rise up through the ranks of magicians, and her problems and adventures along the way. The trilogy comes to a climatic finish with the best book in the trilogy "The High Lord". The trilogy as a whole is a must ...
...is a better read than Trudi Canavan's previous trilogy. The second book "Priestess of the White" in my view is the highlight of Trudi Canavan's works so far. It should be noted that the trilogys can be (and were written to be) read independently. Over the course of Trudi Canavan's writing career she has received many accolades, and rightly so. Her books are of an extremely high standard and I highly recommend them to anyone. I await with anticipation ... Read review
