Entertaining but also Informative
Review of Susanna Gregory by
mogdred1
Advantages: Descriptive, funny, well written, quite gripping
Disadvantages: A bit silly at some points
Susanna Gregory is the pseudonym of a Cambridge academic and is the author of the very popular Matthew Bartholomew Chronicles, as well as the more recent Thomas Chaloner series.
The Matthew Bartholomew Chronicles are set in 14th Century Cambridge and follow the adventures of a doctor who is also something of a detective. The chronicles have run to 14 volumes so far and have been very well received.
The novels are very in-depth and go into a lot ... ...informative about the later era.
Overall I would defintely recommend Susanna Gregory if you want an enjoyable detective mystery which is also informative about other time periods. The novels are well written, humourous and I have to say quite gripping at some points, although a bit silly in others. ...

John Grisham - the Man
Review of John Grisham by
yummy.mummy
Advantages: John Grisham is a critically Acclaimed Author not to be reckoned with
Disadvantages: none to hand
John Grisham was born February 8th 1955 in Arkansas, United States. He is the second oldest of five children to a cotton farmer for a father whilst his mother brought up the children and looked after the home. They were a Southern Baptist family and were certainly not what you would call well off. Johns upbringing was in a modern environment that was frequently moving - for the first 12 years of his life the family frequently moved before settling ... ...to explore this love further. John Grisham went to Law School, which is where he bases alot of his novels law work on. He offers a creative stance of an author mixed in with an immense knowledge of the US law system and the bureaucracy of the criminal justice system. He also gained an insight into the political arena when he became a politician in 1983.
John Grisham was inspired to start writing novels after a case in 1984 where he decided to explore ...

Rattling the Bones by Ann Granger
Review of Ann Granger by
CPTDANIELS
Advantages: Weel written and thoughly likable sleuth
Disadvantages: plot a little weak
Ann Granger has written 8 succesful crime novels involving Fran Varady as her amateur sleuth.
Fran Varady is a twenty-three year old unemployed Actress. Who in between jobs helps out at the Duke Detective Agency. She is a character it easy to associate with. She cares about people. And having lived rough herself has an affinity with Homeless people.
She is just walking through Camden one day, when she see 'mad Edna' a bag lady she knew when they ... ...or indeed bargained for.
Ann Granger has created a character in Fran Varady who is both likeable and easy to believe in. Her simple aim is to protect an old lady who doesn't have anyone else to look out for her.
The book is extremely well written and I found it hard not to want Fran to solve the case and find out the truth. The author has a great insight into people's characters as she sees to what lengths people will go to to protect their own ...
