Very misleading precis on the back cover
Review of Twilight Children - Torey Hayden by klik

Advantages: Does tell of 3 mundane cases
Disadvantages: The tales are boring and uneventful

I have to admit that I was very dissappointed in this book. It is marketed as 'Three voices no one heard - until someone listened' The three people this story is about are: Casandra 'who refused to speak', this wasn't true, she did speak and was abusive in the main. Torey helped her to talk about her previous problems which we are never actually privy to as Torey stated that she was an habitual liar. Which isn't bad for somebody who doesn't speak. ...
...diagnose or recognise this, she is given a report by a parent of drake. He cannot speak before or after meeting Torey. Gerda, an elderly lady. Has had a stroke and doesn't want to speak. She rambles on about events in the past before dying. In my mind Torey did little to progress these cases and I am left wondering what the point of the book was. Besides raising cash from cases she has already financially gained from. You may ask why I continued ... Read review

A Tale That Must Be Told
Review of Empty Cradles - Margaret Humphreys by JJane

Advantages: Uncovering a sad piece of British/Australian history
Disadvantages: That it had to happen in the first place

‘At a time when empty cradles are contributing woefully to empty spaces, it is necessary to look for external sources of supply. And if we do not supply from our own stock we are leaving ourselves all the more exposed to the menace of the teeming millions of our neighbouring Asiatic races […] The policy at present adopted of bringing out young boys and girls and training them from the beginning in agricultural and domestic methods… has the additional ...
...and imbuing them with Australian sentiments and Australian ideals – the essential marks of true citizenship…’ His Grace the Archbishop of Perth, welcoming British boys arriving in Australia on the SS Strathaird, August 1938 (Empty Cradles, pp 11) During my stay in Australia in 1995/96 I read many books, but will never forget the day when I began reading Margaret Humphreys’ ‘Empty Cradles’. Sitting with the sun blazing down, the world darkened as ... Read review

Mein Kampf - My Struggle, Evil in Paper
Review of Mein Kampf - Adolf Hitler by gt5952

Advantages: In English, Very Interesting
Disadvantages: A lot of hard work to read!

Mein Kampf - My Struggle, written by Adolf Hitler. I am lucky enough to own a first edition (in German obviously) and the english translation version by Jaico Publishing. Mein Kampf was first published in two volumes in 1925-1926 and sold between 8 and 9 million copies during Hitlers lifetime, as well as being widely translated. The contents are most evil, and being quite a chunky read, it takes some time to work through it, least of all because ...
...In Mein Kampf, Hitler uses the main thesis of "The Jewish peril", which speaks of an alleged Jewish conspiracy to gain world leadership. The narrative describes the process by which he became increasingly anti-Semitic and militaristic, especially during his years in Vienna, Austria. Yet the deeper origins of his anti-semitism remain a mystery. He speaks of not having met a Jew until he arrived in Vienna, and that at first his attitude was liberal ... Read review

Toilet Paper!
Review of Ollie - Ian Holloway by leofluffy69

Advantages: his fraudulent way will persuade many to like him!
Disadvantages: its all lies....should be in the fiction category

INTRODUCTION ------------------------ As a Plymouth Argyle fan I can't help but dislike Ian Holloway. As a volunteer at the club in the study centre I have met Holloway and listened to a few of his motivating pre match talks. His fame and fortune however is based on lies and deceipt. Holloway is very popular in football for his hilarious quotes. I find myself laughing uncontrollably at some of them, but many are arrogant and mis-informed lies. ...
...Plymouth Argyle Ian has made a huge impact, and his departure has made a larger one. Last years match against Ipswich at Home Park on the 31st October was known as 'Holloween' and Argyle fans dressed in appropriate attire to show support...thing is he managed to fool the whole city! IAN HOLLOWAY ------------------------ Ian Holloway was born in Bristol in 1963 and in the beginning of his career he played for Bristol Rovers. Since his debut for ... Read review
