REAL LIFE AT ITS BEST
Review of Air Babylon - Imogen Edwards-Jones by
julie_mcewen1984
Advantages: entertaining,funny and factual
Disadvantages: none
I loved this book.
I think all of Imogen Edwards Jones books are very cleverly written.
It gives you an insight into the way that an airport and airlines work with all the behind the scenes stuff added in too. At the same time it has all the characters of a fictional book that you just love and learn to warm to. I struggled putting this book down. I love the way that she writes with an anonymous writer too. Reading it is actually quite shocking. ... ...airport or how sneaky and devious some airlines are. It also gives you a few inside tricks to get upgraded on the plane. There are also things in the book that yuo hear about happening but are never quite sure wether they actually do such as bribing etc. A truly excellent read in a knowledgable way as well as entertaining and funny. ...

A common Assault - Alan Bennett
Review of Alan Bennett, Untold Stories: Common Assault Pt. 4 - Alan Bennett by
sophie_801
Advantages: discriptive,tragic, humourous and charming
Disadvantages: none
...the most disturbuing parts of Alan Bennetts life is read aloud by him. When assaulted in Italy,Alan, then realises how many of his birthdays have been spend either ill or in hospital. He relects on the tragedy of his life in a way that is totally unsurpassed and unique to him. Bennetts, way with words, his unique sense of humour and ability to turn darkness to light , makes this a fantastic audio book. Allows the listener a privilaged insight into ... ...a wonderful story, you feel honoured to be allowed to know so much about his life, and read from his own lips, makes his story all the more poignant. This is part 4 own his diaries and can be heard alone, but having heard and read all of his diary collection, it is a fitting sequel and would be well purchased alongside the others from his publishings. I can't find a bad word to say about this CD. Well reccommended!!!! ...

A tragic historical figure
Review of An Uncommon Woman - Hannah Pakula by
JOHNV
Advantages: Very well-researched, packed with facts
Disadvantages: Too much historical and political detail
This study of the ill-fated Victoria, Princess Royal (1840-1901), later the German Empress Frederick and mother of Kaiser Bill, is exhaustively researched. The author has had access to some very useful sources, and this is bound to remain the most complete book on the Empress for some time to come. I particularly like her sympathetic tone; 'Vicky' has had her detractors, who have accused her of being tactless, domineering towards her husband, and ... ...her life, but Pakula proves that these judgments show a distortion of the evidence, or else stem from a lack of understanding and insight.
The main problem with this book is that its 600 pages or so of closely-printed text often tend to lose the central character from time to time. There is considerable detail about the court of Berlin and the various wars, political issues of the time et al, but I think it would be much more readable if some of ...

Great Book
Review of Angry Blonde - Eminem by
stepz123
Advantages: Great foreword, lots of things about every song, nice cover, interesting
Disadvantages: Couldn't find any
This is a biography about Eminem. This book is definitely a must have for all Eminem fans and even non-eminem fans. The book includes lyrics from all of his songs and it shows about a paragraph to a page about every single page. It is interesting reading about why he wrote the song, what it was about, who it was about, when he wrote, where he wrote it and the media attention it got. At the beggining their is a very interesting foreward by Eminem saying ... ...life; for example what the media are saying about him isn't true. That he isn't homophobic and many more things like that he mentions in the forward. This book is truly AMAZING ...

UPDATED!!! - Dying For A Sandwich
Review of Anorexic - Anna Paterson by
KarenUK
Advantages: A compelling read, informative, honest
Disadvantages: Disturbing and moving - but that's not necessarily a bad thing!
...will be dismissed by the anorexic voice. She even has her email address at the end, in case anyone wants to contact her.
The book has several full-page black and white photos in, which help to show you how she looked at each stage. From a beautiful, healthy young child, she becomes so thin you can see her bones sticking out. The photo of her at her thinnest is a disturbing one. This is also the cover image. For those that think all women’s breasts ... ...*
ANOREXIC (the incredible story of a young girl’s journey to Hell and back) by Anna Paterson – first published by Westworld International Limited in 2000. ISBN 0-9529215-2-9
