****A More Deserved Life****
Review of Abandoned: The True Story of a Little Girl Who Didn't Belong - Anya Peters by moogi48

Advantages: Compelling
Disadvantages: N/A

This is the first book I've read from Anya Peters, my daughter-in-law gave it to me to read. Through reading it all my emotions surfaced, parts of it shocked me, other parts amused me and it also made me cry, but I couldn't stop reading it although I was sickened by events in the book. Anya Peters has captured what it was like to be an outcast and to not belong to a family unit, although she suffered mental and physical abuse from her cousins, who ...
...loved them and wanted to be a part of their family, but she was never really accepted. This book is not for the faint hearted and if you don't like to read of cruelty, deprivation and hate then you had better leave it alone because this is real life, Anya's real life and it wasn't pretty. She was abused by her Uncle in a very depraved way and this book tells it as it was in sickening detail, it also deals with a family's shame about what has happened ... Read review

Not Quite All Of Her!
Review of All of Me - Patsy Palmer by KarenUK

Advantages: Interesting in places, informative, an easy read
Disadvantages: Some bits are dull and repetitive

...Patsy Palmer, so I borrowed All of Me from the library. Patsy is most known for her role as Bianca in EastEnders - you remember, the one with really long red hair who was married to Ricky? Yes, that's the one. The book is 310 pages long and tells Patsy's story from childhood through to the end of 2006. She is now thirty-five years old, married with three children. Her daughter shares the same name as one of my daughters - Emilia - which is one reason ...
...book's title. If you put All of Me into a search, you will find it has been used as the title for umpteen books, albums and films over the years. Even Patsy's EastEnders co-star Barbara Windsor has an autobiography called All of Me! So it is rather clichéd and makes it a bit dull. It is also a bit ridiculous, as there is no way a book could really tell everything! As with every autobiography, this is the edited highlights. There will be some things ... Read review

Nothing To Lose Your Head Over
Review of Anne Boleyn - Joanna Denny by DoubleFantasy11

Advantages: Alternative perspective, easy to understand, good arguements and conclusions on some points
Disadvantages: Stereotyping, doesn't fully argue some points

Anne Boleyn is one of the most-maligned women in history, her reputation as a ‘witch’ and a ‘whore’ still prevalent over 470 years after her death. Even now, rumours created by her enemies to slander her are still averred as truth – as recently as around 13 years ago, I was taught in primary school that Anne Boleyn had a sixth finger on one hand, despite there being no evidence of this other than hearsay and much evidence to the contrary, such as ...
...that the popular impression of Anne Boleyn is mostly fabrication and plain lies. In her attempt to portray Anne Boleyn as someone other than the whore who bewitched Henry VIII, Joanna Denny veers off wildly in the other direction: she presents Anne Boleyn as the perfect evangelist, a portrait that seems as unrealistic and stereotypical as the one described above. Whilst there’s no doubt that Anne Boleyn was devoted to the protestant cause, being ... Read review

In Bed With Marilyn Monroe!
Review of An Evening with Marilyn - Douglas Kirkland by KarenUK

Advantages: Beautiful pictures, well presented, good price
Disadvantages: Could have done with more information

...years ago. I built up an impressive collection of books, postcards and other memorabilia, but in the 1990s, I had my children and Marilyn became less important in my life. I sold some of my collection, lost other pieces between house moves and until last year, I only had a few items left. Then last year, my interest in Marilyn was reignited. I joined some Marilyn yahoogroups and soon became as big a fan as I ever had been. I decided to start collecting ...
...bought his hardback book - An Evening With Marilyn - which was published in 2005. It cost £6.59 from Amazon and arrived quickly. It is a lovely looking book. Hot pink with a gorgeous Marilyn photo on the cover, it is a smallish hardback, around 8" x 7" in size. There are 126 pages, which include text but mainly photos in both colour and black and white. The book is very stylish. Often a page only contains a few sentences or a quote, using a bigger ... Read review

Review of Awight Now: Setting the Record Straight - Michael Barrymore by brockysbird

Advantages: great read an absolute must have
Disadvantages: none

I purchased this book in November of 2006 from Asda at the price of £9.96, I loved Michael Barrymore in Big Brother and that is the reason why I opted for this book! (He should have won!!!!) Michael was once one of britans favorite entertainers; he regularly appeared on TV and was loved by the public for being so funny and so unique. We first saw Michael in 1975 when he won the talent show 'New faces' from then on he became a familiar and loved ...
...shows included Barrymore Strike it lucky My kind of people My kind of music And kids say the funniest things Michael Barrymore also won 13 national TV awards including best entertainment show, most popular comedy performer and even a special recognition award ...with a raft of other awards Despite all of his success he got heavily into drink and drugs and in 1997 he split from his wife of 18 years, this was when he admitted to being gay. Then ... Read review
