Captain Jack Talks Back!
Review of Anything Goes - John Barrowman by KarenUK

Advantages: Entertaining and interesting read
Disadvantages: Could have been longer

...John recently published his autobiography Anything Goes, chronicling his first forty years. His sister, Carole E. Barrowman helped him write it and between the two of them, the tone is perfect and you can easily hear John's voice coming through the text. The hardback version has a cover price of £18.99, but you can buy it for about half that if you look online. I got mine from Amazon UK for £9.49. It is around 250 pages, split into nineteen chapters. ...
...the end of the book. Anything Goes never becomes dull and each chapter has something interesting and shows the reader more about John's life, career, family and friends. He comes across just as he seems on television appearances - warm, friendly, caring, energetic, and full of life, frank, cheeky, confident and endearing. He isn't afraid of writing it how it is and is happy to laugh at his own actions. Although a couple of incidents he recalls did ... Read review

Anything Goes
Review of Anything Goes: The Autobiography - John Barrowman & Carole E. Barrowman by sewbizzie

Advantages: A good book with loads of info and fun to read
Disadvantages: None

Anything Goes is the biography written by John Barrowman with the help of his sister Carole. John first came to my attention when I watched him appear in Dancing on Ice, I did not know much about him before this and thought he was a very good looking fun guy so it was after seeing this that I started noticing him in more and more shows in the TV. THE BOOK The book is split into 19 chapters, each chapter has its title taken from a song which has ...
...laid out in the traditional way, starting with him as a child and progressing through his life to where he is now. He has written to book as if he was talking to you personally over a drink and started off with one thing and they it has digressed into other parts of his life. Even though it is a bit all over the place in years it is still very easy to follow. The back of the book has a time line so you can follow his career through the years in ... Read review

****A More Deserved Life****
Review of Abandoned: The True Story of a Little Girl Who Didn't Belong - Anya Peters by moogi48

Advantages: Compelling
Disadvantages: N/A

This is the first book I've read from Anya Peters, my daughter-in-law gave it to me to read. Through reading it all my emotions surfaced, parts of it shocked me, other parts amused me and it also made me cry, but I couldn't stop reading it although I was sickened by events in the book. Anya Peters has captured what it was like to be an outcast and to not belong to a family unit, although she suffered mental and physical abuse from her cousins, who ...
...loved them and wanted to be a part of their family, but she was never really accepted. This book is not for the faint hearted and if you don't like to read of cruelty, deprivation and hate then you had better leave it alone because this is real life, Anya's real life and it wasn't pretty. She was abused by her Uncle in a very depraved way and this book tells it as it was in sickening detail, it also deals with a family's shame about what has happened ... Read review

REAL LIFE AT ITS BEST
Review of Air Babylon - Imogen Edwards-Jones by julie_mcewen1984

Advantages: entertaining,funny and factual
Disadvantages: none

I loved this book. I think all of Imogen Edwards Jones books are very cleverly written. It gives you an insight into the way that an airport and airlines work with all the behind the scenes stuff added in too. At the same time it has all the characters of a fictional book that you just love and learn to warm to. I struggled putting this book down. I love the way that she writes with an anonymous writer too. Reading it is actually quite shocking. ...
...airport or how sneaky and devious some airlines are. It also gives you a few inside tricks to get upgraded on the plane. There are also things in the book that yuo hear about happening but are never quite sure wether they actually do such as bribing etc. A truly excellent read in a knowledgable way as well as entertaining and funny. ... Coleen McLoughlin: Welcome to my world
Review of Welcome to My World - Coleen McLoughlin by louiseyd

Advantages: Cheap, fun and easy to read
Disadvantages: I want her life

I bought this book on a spur of the moment shopping trip, basically because I was interested to see how Coleen went from being a schoolgirl to a WAG in such a short space of time. I was amazed to read her story and see how down to earth she really was, even after being catapulted at amazing speed into the limelight. She was even thoughtful enough to come back to her book and update it with her wedding plans for the release of the paperback edition. ...
...quick life update, within which she includes girly pages with tips on make-up, fashion, nights out and quizzes, making it so much more like a diary. It is really easy to read and highly enjoyable to learn how down to earth she is and how she enjoys nothing more than snuggling on her sofa watching the soaps just like the rest of us. ...
