Review of A Cooks Tour - Anthony Bourdain by Silverback

Advantages: Dozens of delicious and dodgy dinners
Disadvantages: It's vegetarian hell!

...this swaggering, gung-ho account of a year-long global culinary gross-out, he despatches, or witnesses the bloody deaths of, a pig, a lamb, several rabbits, a turkey and a cobra. I wasn't totally surprised by the carnage. I had read Bourdain's previous, autobiographical 'Kitchen Confidential'. He describes that book as "an obnoxious and overtestosteroned account of my life in the restaurant business". It was all that and more. It took the reader ...
...was never going to be a genteel affair. If American celebrity chef Bourdain is not totally honest in his justifications for the brutal, foulmouthed world of the restaurant kitchen, he is at least open about his motivation for writing 'A Cook's Tour'. On the back of the success of 'Kitchen Confidential' he persuades an editor to allow him a culinary grand tour. Ostensibly 'in search of the perfect meal' (the book's subtitle), he would get to play ... Read review

Paul Burrell's Royal Duty...
Review of A Royal Duty - Paul Burrel by dodgykow

Advantages: An Interesting Insight into the Life of the Royals and the People Behind them.
Disadvantages: Maybe too Detailed in Places.

...his recent appearance in 'I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!' I decided to read up on the man Paul Burrell through his autobiography 'A Royal Duty', not knowing too much about his life or his involvement in the Royal Family in particular Diana, Princess of Wales. ‘You are the captain of my ship – I am safe with you at the helm’ – Diana, Princess of Wales to Paul Burrell. ‘No one has been closer to my family than you have’ – Her Majesty the Queen ...
...remembered his portrayal on 'I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here', where he did seem like a very self-applauding man at all, possibly the opposite. The book follows Paul’s life from when he was growing up in Derbyshire and beginning his servant life at Buckingham Palace to the recent court case in which her Majesty the Queen historically intervened. Although the main proportion of the 400 pages in the book describe his fond memories of life as a ... Read review

My favourite Dragon not dissapointing
Review of Anyone Can Do It: My Story - Duncan Bannatyne by toastking

Advantages: A great insight into his life, shows the effect of events on his life
Disadvantages: If you think he is a light hearted nice fellow that may change

Having seen him on the Dragons Den on BBC2 I saw this in my local Waterstones and thought heck why not he is my favourite of the Dragons so he must have an interesting story to tell, and boy does he... Learn how Bannatyne has built up his empire from his days in the military where he was dishonorably discharged in appropriate style for an entrepreneur of his sort, going through ice cream turf wards to old peoples home inspections to health and fitness ...
...colourful life that was certainly interesting to read, took it on my holiday to Egypt and had read it by the time we were on the coach the other side, hard to put down, easy to read, very much enjoyed and read again even though its been less than a year and has been round a few of my friends. ... Review of Awight Now: Setting the Record Straight - Michael Barrymore by brockysbird

Advantages: great read an absolute must have
Disadvantages: none

I purchased this book in November of 2006 from Asda at the price of £9.96, I loved Michael Barrymore in Big Brother and that is the reason why I opted for this book! (He should have won!!!!) Michael was once one of britans favorite entertainers; he regularly appeared on TV and was loved by the public for being so funny and so unique. We first saw Michael in 1975 when he won the talent show 'New faces' from then on he became a familiar and loved ...
...shows included Barrymore Strike it lucky My kind of people My kind of music And kids say the funniest things Michael Barrymore also won 13 national TV awards including best entertainment show, most popular comedy performer and even a special recognition award ...with a raft of other awards Despite all of his success he got heavily into drink and drugs and in 1997 he split from his wife of 18 years, this was when he admitted to being gay. Then ... Read review

My Least Favourite Spice Girl.
Review of Catch a Fire: the Autobiography - Melanie B by KarenUK

Advantages: Interesting, easy to read, informative.
Disadvantages: Slightly awkward style at times.

...told their ghost writer. Catch A Fire fulfils these requirements. It is revealing, but draws the line in the right places. It is informative and interesting. It sounds to me like Mel B’s voice speaking and I can see no mention of a ‘co-writer’ to dispute this. So far, so good. It also contains several pages of photos that all good autobiographies should have – you know, the cute toddler pics and those ones with embarrassing ...
...B a little better and I admire her more than I did, but I still don’t have a great deal of warmth for her. She’s still my least favourite Spice Girl. CATCH A FIRE by Melanie B Published by Headline in 2002 ISBN 0-7553-1062-4 Hardback cover price £17.99 ... Read review
