A brilliant read
Review of Wasting Police Time: The Crazy World of the War on Crime - David Copperfield by SunnyJen

Advantages: Hilarious, offers real insight
Disadvantages: There is no sequel yet

A brilliant book which offers real insight into the life of a British Bobby. Although most of what PC Copperfield writes about is serious stuff, he has a really good writing style, a great sense of humour and I found myself laughing all the way through. The book is broken down into short anecdotes so you can read a crafty chapter at work or leave it in the downstairs loo for others to pick up, although I think the danger then will be that you don't ... This is a must read book.
Review of Wild Swans - Jung Chang by pixie0913

Advantages: Impossible to put down
Disadvantages: difficult to read in the bath!

Having never read anything about China or the Chinese I had no idea what to expect from this book. A little daunted at first, as it's very thick, I started to read. The book tells the tale of three generations of the authors family starting with her grandmother and ending when Jung finally leaves China to study english. The author immediately had me hooked, as well as the facinating differences in culture, the discriptions of clothes, traditions, ...
...almost feel you are there. Once you have got to know the people the author begins to describe the hardships that they faced with, with an almost uncomfortable amount of detail. I found reading about the onset of communism facinating and horrifying in equal measure, some of the situations Jungs mother had to endure are truly appalling and made very emotional reading. There are times when you feel that the situations the family find themselves in are ... Read review

A Nightime on Radio
Review of Almost a Celebrity: A Lifetime of Night-Time - James Whale by charlesnewton

Advantages: Easy to read and follow
Disadvantages: Controversial at times with strong opinions

This is the story of one of Britains most controvercial and opinionated Shock Jock Radio presenters. It takes you along the road of his life in Radio, including Top Shop Radio, for the Top Shop clothes store, Local Radio in Newcastle, Radio Aire in Leeds, where he took his show to Television, to his last show on Talk Sport Radio. It also talks about his diagnosis with Cancer and the setting up of his cancer charity. This book does not dissapoint. ...
...his opinions on a variety of subjects as well as charting his life and career. It also has a wonderful tribute to his personal friend, Bernard Manning, who passed just before the book was published. Witty, controversial and entertaining, this is a must read for all who have listened to the James Whale Radio Show. The book is written by James himself and charts his life at various stages as well as sharing his experiences and opinions. ... Read review

Let the entertainer entertain you
Review of Anything Goes: The Autobiography - John Barrowman & Carole E. Barrowman by dbarcl10

Advantages: Great read, informative and humorous
Disadvantages: None

Anything goes. And in the case of John Barrowman, this is certainly the truth. From being relatively unknown just a few short years ago, John has quickly risen to being a popular celebrity, being on many prime time television shows, such as Doctor Who, Torchwood, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, Any Dream Will Do and I'd Do Anything. I first noticed John when I caught an episode of Torchwood. I was never a fan of Doctor Who so I didn't expect ...
