Madness in France
Review of C'est La Folie - Michael Wright by Wisegirl

Advantages: Easy hilarious read
Disadvantages: none

The Author of C’est La Folie, Michael Wright has penned this true and very witty book based on his own real life French adventure. In the late summer of 2004 he left his comfortable existence in South London to begin a new life in rural France which included the purchase and renovation of a fifteenth century farmhouse and his transformation from townie to solitary country farmer on foreign soil. His only company to begin with was his long-suffering ...
...with the Daily Telegraph Newspaper and due to the success of his column the book was born. A childhood dream to have sheep and chickens, to make friends in a foreign language, have manly power tools and live abroad alone became a reality after eventually finding a suitably run-down property in the middle of nowhere, the nearest town being Jolibois (not likely to be found on a map). The name of the house La Folie which translated means madness or ... Read review

Review of Cantona on Cantona: Reflections on a Sporting Legend - Eric Cantona by benmoore1984

Advantages: Some insight into a the legend's mind, imaginative, striking photographs
Disadvantages: Takes all of 30 mins to read the book

...me... 5 Cantonas!! Cantona on Cantona: Reflections of a Sporting Legend is primarily a book of artistically taken photographs of one of the most influential modern day footballers, with some text from the man himself (along with co-author Alex Fynn). The book is approx. A4 paper size. Inbetween photographs of Catona on and off the pitch, in the changing room, on the training ground, as a child, in the crowd, on a fishing boat, etc, we are given ...
...old During his time Cantona captained both Manchester United and France. He was elected footballer of the year by the Football Writers' association in 1996 for his part in coming back from suspension and helping United win the double (FA Cup and Premiership) that year. His comments in the book are insightful and interesting, as well as at points entertaining ("people make a scandal out of the slightest incident"; "66 was a great year for English ... Read review

My Least Favourite Spice Girl.
Review of Catch a Fire: the Autobiography - Melanie B by KarenUK

Advantages: Interesting, easy to read, informative.
Disadvantages: Slightly awkward style at times.

...told their ghost writer. Catch A Fire fulfils these requirements. It is revealing, but draws the line in the right places. It is informative and interesting. It sounds to me like Mel B’s voice speaking and I can see no mention of a ‘co-writer’ to dispute this. So far, so good. It also contains several pages of photos that all good autobiographies should have – you know, the cute toddler pics and those ones with embarrassing ...
...B a little better and I admire her more than I did, but I still don’t have a great deal of warmth for her. She’s still my least favourite Spice Girl. CATCH A FIRE by Melanie B Published by Headline in 2002 ISBN 0-7553-1062-4 Hardback cover price £17.99 ... Read review

HOW THE OTHER HALF LIVE
Review of Charles A Biography - Anthony Holden by ANNJSEC

Advantages: Gives an unbiased and informed view of Charles years from 40 on.
Disadvantages: None that I can think of

...Having been close to both Charles and Diana at some point, he gives an impartial account of both sides of the marital discord between them and he actually forecast that the marriage was in trouble long before the book Diana her True Story was ever written - thus incurring the wrath of the Royal Household thereafter and being snubbed from future press events (Holden is, or was a columnist for the Daily Express). Anthony Holden has written two previous ...
...third book therefore merely outlines Charles childhood and school years and his early loves (including Camilla) and goes into more detail of his life after his 40th birthday. The book is a unique insight into the events leading up to Diana's death, including Charles ever declining popularity and the resulting fears for the future of the monarchy at the time, but it also goes on to show how sympathy for the two young princes following Diana's death ...
