Just another marilyn monroe book?
Review of The Assassination of Marilyn Monroe - Donald H. Wolfe by
sarah24484
Advantages: The whole book, start to finish!
Disadvantages: There is none really unless you are a kennedy fan!!!
...understood who she was.
From the first page of that book i was a hooked fan everything about her was so intriguing and the pictures in the book where truely amazing, at the age of 13 when maybe i should of wanted to be like the spice girls like most other girls my age i was classing marilyn monroe as a beautiful woman who after reading about her life i deeply admired.
So 11 years on and i have to say iam still a great fan of the biggest sex symbol ... ...hers its her background and the on going struggle of her life and quest to find happiness that makes me a fan.
After reading many books on her life and death and the mystery that surronds most of it i must admit i was getting a little bored of reading the same things over and over again most books on marilyn tend to tell you about her hard childhood and her mothers mental illness and the fact she was moved from foster home to childrens home untill ...

Like cats? You must read this book!
Review of The Cat Who Came In From The Cold - Deric Longden by
elliepotten
Advantages: Giggle-out-loud funny, charming, immensely accessible, honest.
Disadvantages: Unusually, absolutely nothing!
...that it was one of the best literary investments she could ever have made. This charming little tome drags the reader on a lovely journey of enlightenment and discovery, as writer Deric Longden comes to the wonderful realisation that he is, in fact, a Cat's Best Friend. It all begins when he spots his next door neighbour's new kitten sitting on an upturned bucket in the yard. When the day turns rainy and the little mite is still out in the cold, ... ...new love affair culminates in the sneaky adopting of the kitten, and the story runs from there. Fears of sheepskin rugs, drunken misbehavior with spilt wine, climbing trees, a pet sultana called Ralph, and all sorts of other scrumptious quirks and mishaps ensue as Deric and his kitten bond, culminating in Aileen - who is almost blind - shutting him in the fridge with a pack of Danish bacon. The wonderful image of Deric thawing him out in a shrunken ...

Friendly Fire?
Review of The Girl in the Picture: The Remarkable Story of Vietnam's Most Famous Casualty - Denise Chong by
helencbradshaw
Advantages: Educational
Disadvantages: Heartbreaking
“The Girl in the Picture” is the story behind the subject of one of the Vietnam War’s most shocking images; that of nine year old Kim Phuc, who was badly burned, and was captured on film running naked from her village back on 8 June 1972. the picture itself was shown around the world and won a Pulitzer prize for its cameraman. There were in fact many pictures of this terrible war, but this picture more than any other around the world, made people ... ...Phuc lived in the village of Trang Bang, north of Saigon in South Vietnam in 1972. She was the middle of nine children, born in 1963 to parents Nu and Tung. It was widely reported that she lost two brothers in the napalm attack, although the two boys in question were in fact cousins. Kim’s life was never to be the same again, not only for the injury and the devastation on her country and family, but for the fact that she was an unwilling celebrity, ...

one boys courage and fight for life
Review of The Lost Boy - Dave Pelzer by
ameliajayne
Advantages: highlights the truth about what people go through
Disadvantages: A very upsetting book to read
The opening of the book is heart rendering, you will feel drained and emotional while reading, there are no fairy tales or laughter, just heartache, cruelness, torture and fear. It is the story of David Pelzer who wrote the book, it is about his childhood and upbringing by a cruel, cold drunken evil sad excuse for a mother. The facts in this book refer to David's case of child abuse as the 3rd most horrific case that the USA has dealt with. When ... ...considered the norm, his mother treated him like any mother would treat their child until things start to change. She turns to drink and starts to torment David, at this point David's life ends as far as childhood goes. As I entered the next stage of the book I find myself wondering how lucky our children are and how petty the things they whine about are, I also find myself enraged that this happened. The family had dogs, the dogs were treated with ...
