Gripping and compelling reading makes you think!!
Review of A Child Called It - Dave Pelzer by
Shar412
Advantages: Well written detailed account of this mans early life story
Disadvantages: Not for the faint hearted.
...to grow up leaving behind a childhood that no-one could possibly have made up to write his detailed sometimes explicit account of his early life story.
Like a few other books I have read this book grabbed your insides and pulled you into this depraved world where an alcoholic abusive mother taunted tortured and played games with her own flesh and blood. The unimagineable cruelty that was this poor childs upbringing just brought you to your knees, ...

A Man named Dave
Review of A man named Dave - Dave Pelzer by
pamlemmon
Advantages: Very touching biography
Disadvantages: Sometimes it can get to intimadating to read
...the abuse Dave had as a child it brings tears to your eyes to think that a mother could do something so gruesome and unhuman like to their own son.
I find it truly comforting that Dave can speak of his abuse, I have read quite a few biographies where the authors have been abused but Dave Pelzers biographies are by far the very best.
I would seriously reccommend this book to anyone that is interested in biographies. ...

Review of Help Yourself - Dave Pelzer by
vcarina88x
Advantages: (+) easy to follow format (+) language not too advanced (+) very reflective of life
Disadvantages: (-) may be a little lengthy for some people

Who is David Pelzer?
David Jame Pelzer is an American author however, he is involved in many other areas of work, including campaigning for children's rights. He was born on 29th December, 1960 in California, USA and was one of five sons.
Pelzer is most commonly known for writing books about ... ..."It"" are probably his most famous and popular books. It is in these books that the reader finds out just how abusive his childhood was - Pelzer tells of his Mother starving and beating him and on many occasions making him drink dangerous fluids such as ammonia and bleach.
Is this book the same as his previous work?
Yes and no. Whilst "Help Yourself: Finding Hope, Courage, and Happiness" does note some of the events of Pelzer's life, it ...

A Truly Inspirational Story
Review of My Story - Dave Pelzer by
lizngaz
Advantages: An amazing story from age 4 to adult
Disadvantages: You will need a pack or 2 of tissues!
My Story by Dave Pelzer is a trilogy which includes A Child Called "It", The Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave. I first heard about A Child Called "It" a few years ago after I had read a book called The Kid, by Kevin Lewis. I had mentioned the book, written about the abuse he suffered as a child at the hands of his parents, to a friend who told me I should also read A Child Called "It". She told me that it was a similar story, written about the harrowing ... ...decided to buy this book, My Story. The book is widely available both used and new, online and in good book stores. The cover price of the paperback book I purchased is £7.99, although a search online will of course bring this book up much cheaper, which is what I did. The book is 490 pages long in total, which includes all 3 books in the trilogy.
Please be aware before I get going with the story, if you haven't already read this book, there may ...

one boys courage and fight for life
Review of The Lost Boy - Dave Pelzer by
ameliajayne
Advantages: highlights the truth about what people go through
Disadvantages: A very upsetting book to read
The opening of the book is heart rendering, you will feel drained and emotional while reading, there are no fairy tales or laughter, just heartache, cruelness, torture and fear. It is the story of David Pelzer who wrote the book, it is about his childhood and upbringing by a cruel, cold drunken evil sad excuse for a mother. The facts in this book refer to David's case of child abuse as the 3rd most horrific case that the USA has dealt with. When ... ...considered the norm, his mother treated him like any mother would treat their child until things start to change. She turns to drink and starts to torment David, at this point David's life ends as far as childhood goes. As I entered the next stage of the book I find myself wondering how lucky our children are and how petty the things they whine about are, I also find myself enraged that this happened. The family had dogs, the dogs were treated with ...
