Kylie - Story of a Survivor
Review of Kylie Story of a Survivor - Virginia Blackburn by sewbizzie

Advantages: Good amount of Information
Disadvantages: Too many quotes

...colour with a picture of Kylie dressed as a showgirl on stage with the title in pink / purple lettering at the bottom. The back cover of the book has a picture of Kylie when she has her short hair after her battle with cancer. THE BOOK The book consists of 18 chapters starting at the beginning giving us some details about where she was born and her family. It then moves on to tell about how she landed her role as Charlene in Neighbours and how ...
...a few new things about kylie which I did not know before reading. I would have liked the book more if it had in fact been written by Kylie herself as the book is filled with quotes from family and friends which I did find a bit off putting and I am never too sure whether to fully believe what I am reading. The book is very easy to follow starting at the beginning of her life and ending with her comeback after her fight with cancer. I did find that ... Read review

Platinum Blonde - A portrait of Deborah Harry
Review of Platinum Blonde - Deborah Harry by micksheff

Advantages: Interesting story
Disadvantages: Not always in chronological order

...of reading material. Platinum Blonde is the title of a portrait of Debbie Harry written by Cathay Che. It was written with Harry's full co-operation and when published in 1999 it was actually the first official book that had been published on the woman, which I quite find incredible considering today's current climate where flash in the pan celebrities from reality game shows have their own biographies and autobiographies and some footballers that ...
...new generation of performers. Platinum Blonde is the frank story of Debbie's rise to fame and draws heavily on the only Blondie biography that was ever written in 1981, "Making Tracks - The rise of Blondie. There are plenty of quotes from this book but this time around these quotes are analysed and elaborated upon by Harry in a reflective way that wasn't possible at the peak of the band's fame. It is quickly evident that even when this book was ... Read review

Home: Where the heart is?
Review of Home - Julie Myerson by Essexgirl2006

Advantages: original, well-written
Disadvantages: Subject matter may not have a wide appeal, bit disjointed in parts

Julie Myerson is a novelist living in Clapham, South London. Whilst researching for one of her books set in Victorian London she came across the home, she and her partner and three children were living in, listed on a census and started on a remarkable labour of love researching its history. As I enjoy researching my family history I thought this sounded a very interesting read. The book is basically a biography of her home. She starts in the logical ...
...tracks down their adult children and asks them for their memories regarding their former home, and invites them for a visit. Obviously as time goes by it becomes harder and harder to track down past residents or their descendants and Myerson and her long suffering partner, Jonathan, send out lots of speculative letters to people and Julie spends many hours in various public records offices. Whilst I knew this was about the people in the house, I ... Read review

Mama Mia, A Haunted Home!
Review of Haunted Homes: Trues Stories of Paranormal Investigations - Mia Dolan by JeffFromPoole

Advantages: Interesting look into a TV series
Disadvantages: You might want to sleep with the light on

Review of Haunted Homes- True Stories of Paranormal Investigations I bought this book from a bargain book shop, having seen the television series and also having a bit of a fascination for such things I decided to treat myself. The first thing you realise is that Mia Dolan, billed as Britain's most famous psychic, is a normal, down to earth person who eats, sleeps and goes to the toilet, just like the rest of us. There are no airs and graces about ...
...with a description of each haunted house, the family affected and the story of the visit when the house was cleared and the program made. The team consisted of a team of professional paranormal investigators, a sceptic researcher whose job it was to find rational explanations of each event, the film crew, make up and Mia herself. When we saw the series on TV we remarked that we could tell where she had bought her clothes (Evans) and reading the ... Read review

My favourite Dragon not dissapointing
Review of Anyone Can Do It: My Story - Duncan Bannatyne by toastking

Advantages: A great insight into his life, shows the effect of events on his life
Disadvantages: If you think he is a light hearted nice fellow that may change

Having seen him on the Dragons Den on BBC2 I saw this in my local Waterstones and thought heck why not he is my favourite of the Dragons so he must have an interesting story to tell, and boy does he... Learn how Bannatyne has built up his empire from his days in the military where he was dishonorably discharged in appropriate style for an entrepreneur of his sort, going through ice cream turf wards to old peoples home inspections to health and fitness ...
...colourful life that was certainly interesting to read, took it on my holiday to Egypt and had read it by the time we were on the coach the other side, hard to put down, easy to read, very much enjoyed and read again even though its been less than a year and has been round a few of my friends. ...
