A must read autobiography
Review of Ma, He Sold Me for a Few Cigarettes - Martha Long by kezziefaerie

Advantages: great read, well written and inspirational
Disadvantages: sad and disturbing in some places, made me cry!

As a fan of autobiographies and true stories, this book caught my eye at the school I volunteer in. The book people bring in products for us to look at and purchase every few weeks and this one was an absolute bargain at just £4! RRP is £9.99 The title grabbed my attention immediately and when I read the back and discovered it was an autobiography, I placed my order. When the book arrived the following week, I started reading it straight away. Once ...
...heart rendering story of Martha had me in tears from laughing one minute and sadness the next. The book is written from the point of view of Martha, born a bastard to a teenage mother, growing up in slums of 1950's Dublin and the various trials and tribulations she has to overcome. The story begins with a nearly four year old Martha living with her Mother, Auntie and Cousin and remembering a relatively ok childhood with some happy memories, compared ... Read review

Mad, bad and definitely dangerous to know
Review of Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know - Sir Ranulph Fiennes by Theworker

Advantages: Awe Inspiring
Disadvantages: Not for the faint hearted.

Some people may show a slight frown on a Christmas morning when they open an envelope containing a £20 Waterstones gift voucher, sat there amongst a sea of discarded wrapping paper wondering how it came to this. Not me sir. A useful gift, that will be put to good use on broadening my mind as opposed to polluting it with cheap ale. Waited for the sales I did, and got my merry behind down to the famous bookshop, with youthful excitement, and an eagerness ...
...Ranulph Fiennes; adventurer, explorer, military man and athlete. Keen to learn of his exploits and daring quests to be the first, I knew I would not be disappointed. Fiennes is a man's man. Calling a spade a spade, combining his daring pursuits with a natural charm and dose of humbling memoirs makes this exceptional reading. I defy anyone who reads this and then is not inspired to get down to the tent shop, pack a bag and walk to Antarctica. Away ... Read review

Sheffield Steel!
Review of Made in Sheffield: Neil Warnock - My Story - Neil Warnock by thedevilinme

Advantages: Top English manager
Disadvantages: Self-centered read

...current manager. Sunderland, of course, made the final that year against Liverpool and the rest is history. But when the Nott's County chairman sold star striker Paul Rideout behind his back the nest season the trust was lost and he wished he had taken up the other offers. Neil falls out with all of his chairman. After a short assistant coach gig to help keep Torquay stay up, a dramatic 700 mile round trip and win at Carlisle the requisite, Huddersfeild ...
...low and behold, Plymouth, too, made the play-off final and returned to division one with another victory, surely the play off king now! Here Warnock explains why the Plymouth Argyle chairman was the latest to fall out with him; the petty reason given that Warnock had booked a 'slightly bigger suite' than his chairman's in the same hotel, Warnock informed it was a sackable offence. At one point the relationship was so bad; he charged Warnock for the ... Read review

Madonna - Queen of the world
Review of Madonna: Queen of the World - Douglas Thompson by micksheff

Advantages: Well written, easy to read
Disadvantages: Nothing new, its all been written before

Madonna - love her or loathe her, it seems that everyone has an opinion about her. With a career that now spans over 25 years her rise to fame from the early days when she first arrived in New York, penniless but with huge ambitions has been well documented many times. Madonna - Queen of the world by Douglas Thompson could at first glance quite easily be dismissed as yet another regurgitated account of Madonna's rise to fame but from the sleeve notes ...
...that everyone claims to already know everything there is to know about. Madonna has given many interviews throughout her life. Usually these interviews are carefully timed to coincide with her latest project, be it a new album, movie, book or other project and the new image that compliments the project is always flaunted to its maximum effect. When it comes to being interviewed Madonna always calls the shots, so how can anyone really expect to know ... Read review

From Knightrider to Baywatch
Review of Making Waves: The Autobiography - David Hasselhoff by charlesnewton

Advantages: A detailed account of his life to date
Disadvantages: None really

This is an autobiography, about David's life to date. He talks about his childhood and upbringing and how he got into acting. He also talks about his acting career, including his world famous roles as Michael Knight in Knightrider and his role in Baywatch, which he also co-produced, and his brief to date pop singing career and how he made it big as a pop singer in Germany. He also talks about his previous marriages and how he has tried to overcome ...
...Sarah Fergusson, Dutchess of York, and his appearance at the tribute concert in memory of the first aniversary of Princess Diana at Althrop. The book is easy to read and difficult to put down once you start reading it. There are plenty of photographs of him at various stages in his life. If you liked either Knightrider or Baywatch I would recommend this as an excellent read. ... Read review
