Daughter of Iraq - FANTASTIC, TEARFUL, REAL LIFE.
Review of Mayada, Daughter of Iraq - Jean Sasson by fionaj89

Advantages: Great detail and insight
Disadvantages: Upsetting in parts

Fantastic Book I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. It really is a brilliant read. It gives a deep insight into the war going on in Iraq from a woman's point of view. The torture and pain they go through. It is a great book which is very relevant to today's society. It is extremely interesting and wouldn't want to say a lot about it or else it would just spoil it. You have to read it for yourself to understand it and to realise ... Read review

The White Flag on The Mosque
Review of My Forbidden Face - Latifa by hiker

Advantages: A powerful memoir, simply told
Disadvantages: None

...all matters because it affects my reading of Latifa's testimony. I come to this work from my own perspective, and I do not wish to offend anyone by my reactions to it. What follows is purely personal. On these pages I have often expressed a dislike of the long intro to a book review….hook them in, I say, people want to know about the book not the fact that you got it from your third cousin's aunt-in-law and thought you might as well read it because ...
...I'm going to break my rule…bear with me… A few weeks ago was International Women's Day. What's that all about, I hear you ask, and I cannot answer you…because I have no idea. Why should 'women' have a day, and men not? Intellectually, if that is your response, I tend to agree with you. I believe in the equality ~ and the diversity ~ of the sexes. We are not the same, nor should we wish to be. Equality of right, equality of opportunity, equality ... Read review

A Child in the House of Rajneeshpuram
Review of My Life in Orange - Tim Guest by Kirsty1

Advantages: Wonderfully well written, honest and insightful
Disadvantages: Painful in places

One of the reasons that this is a good autobiography is that Tim Guest has had an interesting life. That may sound obvious but I am always amazed at the people who feel it is appropriate to write their autobiography about their uninteresting upbringings in Hounslow to middle class and uninspiring parents. Still, perhaps that’s just me. The other reason that this is a good autobiography is that Tim Guest is a writer. That is to say, he can write. ...
...burgeoning biography section of the local bookshop where grade C in an English Language CSE is a bonus and ghost writers lurk in all the dark corners. So we here have an interesting life story to tell by a chap worthy of wielding a biro. “All the makin’s” as neither of grandmothers ever said. ************************************************************************************************* If you were anything more than a foetus in the early seventies ... John Peel - a radio legend
Review of Margrave of the Marshes - John Peel by ScottishWestie

Advantages: Great story, lots of humour
Disadvantages: Sad ending

He was one of our most legendary disc jockeys, not one of those DJ's that rabbled on insistently about things that are absolutely no interest to the listener, but a disc jockey that put the music first. John Peel was if anything quite a reserved character, down to earth & very endearing. I loved his dry wit & although some of the music he played on his late night radio shows left a lot to be desired, he won the hearts & minds of so many listeners ...
...that would never have made it in the music world if it hadn't been for John Peel, and that includes some household names. He was the latter day 'X' factor all in one, send it your tape recordings & if he thought it had potential it was played on his late night show. From there, who knows? Some were lucky, but many got there one & only chance & it never went any further. It was a sad day in the music world when he died whilst on holiday in Peru a ... Read review

II: The Memories of an Adult Child
Review of Me: Moir: Volume One - Vic Reeves by dragonhelmuk

Advantages: Humour and Anecdote, Memories of a Golden Era.
Disadvantages: Lack of Profundity and Decorum, Empty of Detail.

Told to write two types of document, emulating the style of two chosen authors, yet determined to write something that would interest me, I decided to find style models who showed unique style and outrageous flair! Did I find them? Did the actual content have high enough readability that I could subtly twist it without becoming bored? Stop reading and never find out! Vic Reeves is a famous comedian and artist, but personally I had never heard anything ...
...his autobiography Me:Moir Volume 1 still managed to hold my interest with its' distinct style and strange quips. I have heard recently that his comedic air is crude at times and rather unsophisticated, but I can only say that in his writing he comes across more self deprecating and, perhaps somewhat crazed Fans of Vic may yet be disappointed however. Although there is a general overview of his early life, from birth to beginnings of adulthood, few ... Read review
