Review of When Daddy Comes Home - Toni Maguire by chezbabe101

Advantages: a true story
Disadvantages: sad but inspiring

...book is the story of when her dad comes home from prison after what he did to her... the years of abuse and torment. She had only just started to rebuild her life and relationship with her mother who did not believe that Antionette had been abused at all, when its all torn apart by her fathers homecoming from prison... back to her mother who can see no wrong in him at all, this being the time it was (60's) she stood by her husband as it was the way ...
...from the bottom of her saddened and miserable world to be a very successfull woman, I read the whole book over three nights and will read it again sometime soon. Definatly recomended.. You can buy When Daddy Comes Home in all good book shops, or cheaper on ebay.... ... Read review

Coleen McLoughlin: Welcome to my world
Review of Welcome to My World - Coleen McLoughlin by louiseyd

Advantages: Cheap, fun and easy to read
Disadvantages: I want her life

I bought this book on a spur of the moment shopping trip, basically because I was interested to see how Coleen went from being a schoolgirl to a WAG in such a short space of time. I was amazed to read her story and see how down to earth she really was, even after being catapulted at amazing speed into the limelight. She was even thoughtful enough to come back to her book and update it with her wedding plans for the release of the paperback edition. ...
...quick life update, within which she includes girly pages with tips on make-up, fashion, nights out and quizzes, making it so much more like a diary. It is really easy to read and highly enjoyable to learn how down to earth she is and how she enjoys nothing more than snuggling on her sofa watching the soaps just like the rest of us. ... What's it all about?
Review of What's It All About? - Cilla Black by Louise90

Advantages: Easy reading. Nicely written. The honesty.
Disadvantages: None

I've never really been a big fan of Cilla Black, but do like the woman. On TV she comes across as a very nice and down-to-earth woman. So, when her autobiography came out, I wanted to read it. Get an insight into the life of the Liverpool lass. She was brought up in Liverpool at 380 Scottie Road (Scotland Road) with her 3 brothers, mum (mam to her!) and dad. They lived above a Barber shop. She always dreamed about being a singer and famous one day. ...
...hair brush. Wherever the echo was louder, you'd find Cilla in there singing! She often told her mum that she wanted to be famous one day. Her mother never knocked her, always standing by her side whatever she said. She loved her parents. She was born Priscilla White. As a child, her family didn't have a lot of money. Throughout the book, she never forgets her Liverpool roots, and often refers to how she misses the place. Her parent remained up there, ... Read review

good reading!
Review of Who Does She Think She Is? - Martine McCutcheon by little_miss_sunshine1982

Advantages: good reading
Disadvantages: none

While clearing some stuff out recently, I came accross this book. I first read it a number of years ago whne it was first realeased and decided to have another read. I don't know why I originally decided to read this book, as I am not particularly a huge fan of Martine McCutcheon, but I am glad I did. Admittidly she is quite young to write an autobiography, so you would think that she doesn't really have much experience on lif or her career at the ...
...is written in such a way that you culd actually imagine Martine speaking and telling you her story, she is so down to earth and it gives you some insight into her life form growing up as a child to the present day. There are also a number of photos included from various points in her life. Martine tells the story from when she was born. She was born into one of the least promising backgrounds and spent most of her childhood with her mum on the run ... Read review

Not Just Another Cash In!
Review of Whatever It Takes - Elaine Lordan by KarenUK

Advantages: Wonderful read, inspiring, helpful, down to earth
Disadvantages: Upsetting

I read Elaine Lordan's autobiography Whatever It Takes after finishing Patsy Palmer's, so I couldn't help but compare them. Two actresses, both formerly in EastEnders, both Londoners - in fact, both coming from Anna Scher's theatre school. Yet, while I found Patsy's book to be a typical cash in, with a strong dollop of drug addiction boredom thrown in, Elaine's was completely different. Even if you are not the slightest bit interested in autobiographies, ...
...why in this review. Whatever It Takes is quite different to other autobiographies in general. You get some idea of this by looking at the cover. Elaine looks normal in the photos, not all dolled up to the nines with an inch of slap on, just a normal woman wearing jeans. Under the book's title, it says 'A Story of Family Survival' and this is very true. While many in this genre are simply love-ins between the reader and the subject, Whatever It Takes ... Read review
