There was indeed life before Bob the Builder...
Review of Winnie the Pooh: Complete Collection of Stories and Poems - E.H. Shepard, A.A. Milne by
Lizamabug
Advantages: Beautifully presented, timeless stories and poems
Disadvantages: Sometimes challenging flow, not to be confused with Disney!
There are some products that you get genuinely excited about reviewing and for me, this is one of them. Who hasn't heard of Winnie-the-Pooh? He's become a household name thanks to his association with Disney and the wide variety of films and merchandise they've produced of him and his friends over the years. This gorgeous special edition has been produced to commemorate Pooh's 75th anniversary; a remarkable age for a children's fictional character ... ...is now the fourth generation of my family to sit listening to these stories and I can't think of any other character that has maintained popularity through so many generations.
For those of you that don't know the story of where Pooh began, let me start by telling you his birth was not attended by Disney executives. No, he was the creation of aspiring author Alan Alexander Milne: Milne was born in 1882 in Hampstead, London to Sarah and John Milne ...

The Thomas The Tank Engine Collection
Review of The Thomas the Tank Engine Collection - Rev. W. Awdry by
tracyburt
Advantages: Lots of stories that should keep any Thomas fan going for quite a while!
Disadvantages: Big & heavy & if it gets ruined you've lost all of the stories instead of just one.
...in bedtime stories for life! The only problem is that it's not really a book they can look at by themselves (unless they're quite a bit older than my 4 year old, by which time they've probably grown out of Thomas). For that reason ours tends to sit on the shelf and gets forgotton about as I can't keep it down with most of our other kids books, which is on their own book shelf so they can help themselves. It is however a nice book for some bonding ...

My take on Eldest
Review of Eldest - Christopher Paolini by
salmonf1
Advantages: continues from Eragon
Disadvantages: maybe a little too long
Eldest continues the story following Eragon - a former farm boy who upon discovering a dragon egg is to become a rider, allied with saphira and others to aid the Varden (a rebellion group) against the evil king Galbatorix - I personally loved this story much like i enjoyed the previous book titled Eragon. In Eldest the plot thickens with the introduction of new and exciting characters and the exploration of existing characters. As well as being full ... ...i have discovered Eragon and Eldest to be criticized for apparent similarities to Star wars. Thinking about this i can say that there are similarities. but no one should be put off by this, i counter such criticism with the simple fact, starwars is spaceships, lasers and explosions, where as the inheritence sequence is dragons, swords and magic. more to the point starwars is awesome, so surely a few similarities are not unwelcome.
The only criticism ...

Best In Show
Review of Hairy Maclary's Showbusiness - Lynley Dodd by
belfin
Advantages: Funny story with lovely pictures
Disadvantages: None
...the scruffy mutt that is Hairy Maclary. Her clever rhymes and funny illustrations mean that she is a very popular choice with children and adults alike.
***The Story***
The story starts with a picture of a town hall where a cat show is taking place.
"In Riverside Hall
on Cabbage Tree Row,
the Cat Club were having
their Annual Show.
There were fat cats and thin cats,
tabbies and greys,
kick-up-a-din cats with boisterous ways."
Outside Hairy ... ...prize
for the SCRUFFIEST CAT?
Hairy Maclary
From Donaldson's Dairy."
***The Illustrations***
As with all the books in the series, the format is kept simple with a picture on one half of the double pages and the story written on the other. The illustrations are very detailed as well as being bright and colourful, with lots going on in the backgrounds. This is great for keeping children occupied as you read the story. The text is written in clear ...

Review of Voices (Midnight Library) - Nick Shadow by
Jonni_boi
Advantages: scary stories with an humanic twist
Disadvantages: nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This book is the first book in the series "The Midnight Library" the book is called "Voices"
Now this book is SERIOUSLY for everyone, even people with spider phobias, there may be a spider on the front but don't squeal and run away just yet due to the fact there is hardly any mention of spiders in this book!
Now for people who are questioning why the series is is called The Midnight Library I shall tell you why... There is THREE SCARY STORIES IN ... ...the book next to the barcode which is on a library card printed on the back!
So instead of me having to just review one story, I have to review THREE! So you'll have to bare with me as I take my time reviewing it.
Right before I begin I want to write down an important bit, and that is the back of the book well part of it!
"Welcome to the terrifying world of The Midnight Library I, Nick Shadow, have spent many years searching for the most spine-chilling ...
