Not keeping this one hidden!
Review of Hidden Child - Anne Cassidy by
Amy69
Advantages: fascinating, nice and easy, not too long, developed
Disadvantages: excessive use of clauses and commas
A five-hour car journey can be quite a bore without a good book, so I decided I had to buy something to read in time for Easter weekend, and went into the bookshop, fortunately with a voucher left from World Book Day, to browse the latest titles. Now, I can be quite awkward when it comes to books; I'll read almost anything, but I have to be in the right mood.
It didn't take me long to find a book that seemed quite appealing. One of my favourite ... ...titles recently which I had yet to read, so I decided to give one of them a go, and opted for 'Hidden Child', by Anne Cassidy. The cover didn't give too much away; an image of a teenage girl half-hiding herself with her sleeve. The blurb simply asked a question or two, not going into too much detail, yet somehow managing to lure me in. After purchasing and reading the first two pages, I was itching to continue, but thought it was best to wait until ...

Albie and the Space Rocket
Review of Albie and the Space Rocket - Andy Cutbill by
sewbizzie
Advantages: Great fun read for children
Disadvantages: None
Albie and the Space Rocket is a book which my boys love to read.
THE STORY
The story begins with Albie being tucked up in bed and sleeping when something suddenly takes his bed away from him. He goes downstairs to investigate.
In the downstairs toilet he finds two moose dancing the tango but no toilet. Albie then goes into the kitchen where he finds a zebra who has a cupboard full of his zebra friends.
Albie continues to search for his missing ... ...toilet!
The elephants tell Albie that he cant have the things back as the rocket is almost ready for blast off to the planet Jupiter.
Albie asks if he can have his bed back and the elephants tell him to ask the colony of penguins who are standing behind him.
Will Albie get his bed back or will the space rocket get to Jupiter? You will have to read the book to find out!!!!!
MY OPINION
My boys love listening to this story and have fun finding ...

Talking to Strangers
Review of Talking To Strangers - Anne Cassidy by
aimeeb7925
Advantages: Good twist
Disadvantages: Familiar
Synopsis: Little Caroline Mitchell was spotted climbing into a car with a man that no one knew. She has not been seen since. Maggie can't help searching around for answers. Review: I found this book quite difficult to read in the light of the Madeline McCann situation in Portugal. Having said this, it does address a number of current issues regarding abuse and the effect it can have on children and teenagers. The story was a little predictable, although ...

Alison Croggon's 'The Crow'
Review of The Crow: The Third Book of Pellinor - Alison Croggon by
bnmnmmb
Advantages: Another fantastic book in the Pellinor series
Disadvantages: Final book not released until September 08
...have read my reviews for the first two books in this series then you will know that the first book had me totally enchanted, whilst the start of the second book was slightly dissappointing, before it once again rose to the realms of brilliance. This book continues that brilliance. The story in the Crow follows on from the story in the Gift, so reading the Riddle is not necessary before opening the covers of this book. In this story you follow the ... ...Saliman to the great city of Turbansk in the southern deserts. There he begins his training as a Bard, however he finds it difficult to fit in with the local children. The simple problems such as this are soon cast aside however, as the armies of the nameless one are marching towards the city, and they are vast beyond imagining. As the city prepares itself for war, Cai assists the fightback, but will it be enough.
Like the other books in this series, ...

New Pet Advice for Kids
Review of The New Puppy - Anne Civardi by
belfin
Advantages: Lovely story - ducks to find
Disadvantages: none
***Background***
The New Puppy is part of the Usborne First Experiences series and is specifically designed to give children an insight into different new experiences they may be subjected to in their lives. There are 9 different books in this series and they are written by Anne Civardi and illustrated by Stephen Cartwright. Usborne books specialise in books for children and as with most of their books there is the added fun for children to find ... ...for them is the unique way the text is written. At the top of each page there is one line of text, then at the bottom there is a bit more information about what is happening in the picture. This is done this way to encourage your child to read part of the book by themselves and then the parent can elaborate with the more detailed text.
***The Story***
The story starts by showing a picture of the Appleby family and we find out that the children, ...
