Scatter Cat
Review of Hairy Maclary Scattercat - Lynley Dodd by Joe_D_L

Advantages: Good Illustrations, characters & story
Disadvantages: none

...book about the silent hero Hairy Maclary. A rhyming children's book about the children's favourite, shaggy haired dog, but this time Hairy Maclary is chasing cats until he runs into the toughest cat in town, Scarface Claw. I love Hairy Maclary's books because of its fantastic illustrations, characters and rhyming, Hairy Maclary, in my view is a very memorable book. ~Story~ Hairy Maclary was feeling lively, so he decided to chase some cats. Starting ...
...chased under a door. Then Hairy Maclary ran after Pimpernel Pugh who leapt over a wall and Slinky Malinki who fled into a pot of weeds and finally Hairy Maclary chased Mushroom Magee through a hedge. Hairy Maclary carried on walking until he saw a tail, so he decided to pounce on it. Unfortunately it was Scarface claw, who 'bothered & bustled him, rustled & hustled him, raced & chased him all the way home.' ~Author~ New Zealand's finest children's ... Read review

She will be surprised thought Handa as she set off for Akeyo's village. I ...

Hedgehog Fun
Review of Hedgehog Howdedo - Lynley Dodd by belfin

Advantages: Helps youngsters with their counting and reading
Disadvantages: none

***Background*** Lynley Dodd is well know to most mums and dads out there because of her wonderful series of books featuring Hairy Maclary and Slinky Malinky but this one goes to show that she can write about more than just those characters. ***The Story*** This story is all about hedgehogs. "My garden's full of hedgehogs, they're sleeping two by three, under every flower, every bush and every tree." We hear how there is one that likes to ...
...before going up in numbers until we get to eight snoring in the woodpile. Then the little girl ponders what will happen when they awaken from hibernation after the winter. "I'm very glad it's winter, it's such a lucky thing, for there's going to be a traffic jam when they wake up in spring." ***The Illustrations*** As with a lot of her other books, Lynley Dodd has captured the animals' personalities perfectly and they are beautifully drawn. ... Not keeping this one hidden!
Review of Hidden Child - Anne Cassidy by Amy69

Advantages: fascinating, nice and easy, not too long, developed
Disadvantages: excessive use of clauses and commas

A five-hour car journey can be quite a bore without a good book, so I decided I had to buy something to read in time for Easter weekend, and went into the bookshop, fortunately with a voucher left from World Book Day, to browse the latest titles. Now, I can be quite awkward when it comes to books; I'll read almost anything, but I have to be in the right mood. It didn't take me long to find a book that seemed quite appealing. One of my favourite ...
...titles recently which I had yet to read, so I decided to give one of them a go, and opted for 'Hidden Child', by Anne Cassidy. The cover didn't give too much away; an image of a teenage girl half-hiding herself with her sleeve. The blurb simply asked a question or two, not going into too much detail, yet somehow managing to lure me in. After purchasing and reading the first two pages, I was itching to continue, but thought it was best to wait until ... Read review
