Not keeping this one hidden!
Review of Hidden Child - Anne Cassidy by
Amy69
Advantages: fascinating, nice and easy, not too long, developed
Disadvantages: excessive use of clauses and commas
A five-hour car journey can be quite a bore without a good book, so I decided I had to buy something to read in time for Easter weekend, and went into the bookshop, fortunately with a voucher left from World Book Day, to browse the latest titles. Now, I can be quite awkward when it comes to books; I'll read almost anything, but I have to be in the right mood.
It didn't take me long to find a book that seemed quite appealing. One of my favourite ... ...titles recently which I had yet to read, so I decided to give one of them a go, and opted for 'Hidden Child', by Anne Cassidy. The cover didn't give too much away; an image of a teenage girl half-hiding herself with her sleeve. The blurb simply asked a question or two, not going into too much detail, yet somehow managing to lure me in. After purchasing and reading the first two pages, I was itching to continue, but thought it was best to wait until ...

Do You Pout When You Go To Bed?
Review of How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight - Jane Yolen by
belfin
Advantages: Great rhymes and teaches children how to behave well
Disadvantages: none
...great help to show him how he should have behaved.
Unfortunately by the time we discovered it, he had grown out of all that although there are occasions when he still plays up a little bit and tries to convince us that one story more wouldn't be so bad.
The best thing about this book is that it is done in a way that children will find amusing but will see that it's really better for them to behave. The clever rhymes and lovely artwork in this book ... ...***Other Dinosaur Books***

How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food?
Review of How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food? - Jane Yolen by
sewbizzie
Advantages: Good story
Disadvantages: None
How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food?
THE STORY
The story begins by asking questions about how a dinosaur eats his food. Does it belch or make rude noises? Does he pick at it, does he fuss, does he flip it in the air and goes on to ask more questions. We are then told exactly how a dinosaur does eat his food.
MY OPINION
The story is very easy to follow and it does all follow a rhyming pattern.
The main part of the story is the asking questions about ... ...last few pages show us how the dinosaur sits and eats it nicely.
My boys like this story and they answer the questions which are asked at the beginning.
The words are all spread out over 29 pages with only a few words on each page which is great for my 5 year old as he is now able to read most of them by himself and is not put off by there being loads of text in the one place.
There are nice illustrations on all of the pages which too me have ...

Hairy Tricks
Review of Hairy Maclary's Hat Tricks - Lynley Dodd by
belfin
Advantages: Wonderful flowing rhymes make this book a joy to read out loud.
Disadvantages: none
...the many books in the Hairy Maclary and Slinky Malinky series. She keeps children happy with her delightful rhyming stories and wonderfully comical illustrations. This is one of the newer titles and was only published in 2007.
***The Story***
This story starts with our hero being blown everywhere.
"SWOOOSH
went the wind
in the tops of the trees,
swishing the branches and tossing the leaves.
It whipped around corners
and blew over bins,
It ... ...day,
but Hairy Maclary was ready to play."
Hairy grabs his skimmer and heads off down to the park to find someone to play with but everyone seems to be too busy. He finally gets Miss Plum to throw it and the wind blows both the skimmer and Hairy Maclary quickly over a bridge. Later on we see that the wind is causing havoc with a wedding party and the veils and hats are getting blown all over the place. When Grandmother Pugh's hat blows off Hairy ...

Drawing prehistoric smiling creatures
Review of How to Draw Dinosaurs (Usborne Activities) - Fiona Watt by
danielalong
Advantages: Lots of good ideas
Disadvantages: What we need at the beginning of each make please
How to draw dinosaurs
Another book from the Usborne range, and this time sure to appeal to Little Miss- crafty ideas with dinosaurs as the main focus!
THE BOOK
The book has a rather appealing front cover, with smiling dinosaurs featuring rather strongly!
We find a list of the contents, and then with no further preamble are straight into the "makes".
There are 17 dinosaur makes in all, and with ideas such as cartoon Dinosaurs, Prehistoric swamp, ... ...publishing
Website: www.usborne.com
OTHER HOW TO DRAW BOOKS
There are other books in the same series, and since we have a few of them, I can vouch that they are of the same high quality
The books include:
How to draw:
Animals
Christmas
Princesses and Ballerinas
Trucks and Tractors
VERDICT
Another good book from Usborne. The instructions are clearly laid out step by step and the illustrations are fun and appeal to children. The makes usually ...
