Not everyone likes chocolate
Review of Gumboot's Chocolatey Day - Mick Inkpen by
welshfruitbat
Advantages: Nice story, simple for children to understand
Disadvantages: None
...book.
PRODUCT
Gumboot's Chocolatey Day is written and illustrated by Mick Inkpen and was originally published in 1989. The particular copy that my son brought home from school was published in 2001 for The Book People Ltd.
ISBN number for this book is 0 333 51440 8 (hardback) and 0 333 56074 4 (paperback).
The copy that I have is paperback and was originally priced at £4.99, although I am sure you could pick up a used copy much cheaper.
THE ... ...An example of this is Gumboot's aunt gives him the chocolate and we are told it has fifteen squares, but Gumboot doesn't know this because he can only count to ten.
The book I think also encourages a simple learning of animals. Through talking to the little girl in the park Gumboot learns that ducks do not like chocolate, only bread.
This book is also nice because it encourages kind acts - such as sharing. Gumboot has two squares of chocolate, ...

A magnificent read for Children
Review of The Great Ghost Rescue - Eva Ibbotson by
Gemerina
Advantages: very funny, timeless classic
Disadvantages: when the story ends
The Great Ghost Rescue by Eva Ibbotson was one of my favourite books as a child and I have just been reminded of it by someone in my life and I thought I would just have write a review.
The Great Ghost Rescue centres around the main character of Humphrey the Horrible (who is a ghost) and his family. They are all ghosts of one description or another. His mother is a ghost hag, his father is a scottishman with a sword sticking out of his chest, his ... ...can never catch to wash the bloodstains out of her clothes.
The family are living within an old castle happily until one day Aunt Hortensia of the family comes and brings them some terrible news that many ghosts around are being forced to move out of their haunts as developers are moving in and making them into swanky new developments and the ghosts dont have anywhere to haunt. The family began to fear the same is going to happen to Craggyford Castle ...

Wibbly Wobbly
Review of Wibbly Pig Makes Pictures - Mick Inkpen by
belfin
Advantages: Encourages your child to draw and paint
Disadvantages: Not on walls - aaarrggg!!!
...there who already own some Wibbly Pig or Kipper books or videos. The story of Kipper has sold over 6 million copies and through simple artwork and dialogue it's no surprise that Inkpen has been awarded many prizes for his books as well as a BAFTA for the Kipper film.
An Essex lad, Mick Inkpen was a natural when it came to both Art and English, which makes a perfect combination for a writer and illustrator for young children. He also has the advantage ... ...my son still loves the Wibbly Pig character at aged 4. Every time you turn the page in this book you will see a different thing that Wibbly Pig can draw and paint and there are seven double pages to look at. We start off with a lovely drawing of Pigley, who is Wibbly Pig's favourite soft toy. Futher on we see birds, faces and even handprints - or should that be trotter prints in this case.
Finally we are shown that he can even paint his face and ...

~ The style ~
This is an extremely simple text, ideal for pre-school children who find it easy to join in with the text after the first or second reading.
~ The illustrations ~
Mick Inkpen's talent is very evident in this book. He has given each of the pigs personalities through his expressive drawings.
They are set against a white background and are simple but bold and charming.
Young children love to play along with the hide ...

Review of Kipper the Dog (Series) - Mick Inkpen by
DylanD
Advantages: Lovely illustrated stories
Disadvantages: Some books can be pricey
The Kipper story collection is the large colourful paperback book of the moment in our house this week. A great find from our local Ottakers bookshop retailing for £7.99 though you can purchase it from Amazon for £6.99. Having watched the Kipper series on Nick Jnr, both my son and myself fell in love with this rather lovable cute little dog and his adventures.
The kipper story collection is written and illustrated by Mick Inkpen and contains four ... ...Hodder children's book. The kipper books are very easy to read and children and parents alike will love reading them. Kipper books come in several formats and aimed at babies pre school ranges.
