And You Thought That You're Unfortunate!
Review of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events - Lemony Snicket by pureblue

Advantages: Keeps both adults and kids absorbed
Disadvantages: None

The first chapter of this book begins with these lines: 'If you are interested in stories with happy endings, you would be better off reading some other book. In this book, not only is there no happy ending, there is no happy beginning and very few happy things in the middle.' Being human and totally sadistic, I had to continue reading after those first few lines ( now, before you begin to label me, remember that everyone of us are a little nosy ...
...how do you explain myriad of people buying magazines that scream out headlines like "Boob Jobs Gone Wrong" or "End of a FairyTale- X Leaves Y" :-) ?) The remarkable thing about this unfortunate book is that it is written for children. No 'And the lived happily ever after'. No 'good triumphs over evil'. Nothing. ****************************************** THE STORY - This book tells the tragic tale of three unlucky children - Violet, Klaus and Sunny ... Read review

Austere Academy
Review of The Austere Academy - Lemony Snicket by jellsmoor

Advantages: Cant put down type of book.
Disadvantages: Makes the reader feel a bit of an idiot.

...occaisionally a bit reppetative. The Good Points far outwiegh the bad points! The sort of people that would enjoy this book would probably be the sort of person that enjoyed the following: Any of the Harry Potter Books by J K Rowling Phillip Ardaughs books like Awful End Eva Ibbotsons The Secret of Platform Thirteen Any of the Edge Chronicles by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddel including Beyond the Deepwoods and The last Sky Pirate So overall ...
...seem a little bit wierd if you havnt read the previos ones: The Bad Beginng The Reptile Room The Wide Window And the Miserable Mill So read these first before you read this one because they will make it a lot more enjoyable!! Enjoy ... Read review

The Baffling Beatrice Letters
Review of The Beatrice Letters - Lemony Snicket by bluejules

Advantages: Interesting read
Disadvantages: Expensive for what it is, confusing, doesn't solve the mystery

...(pseudonym of Daniel Handler) writes the dark comic children's books A Series of Unfortunate Events. After reading the back of the first book in this series I was intrigued and wanted to find out more. Since then I have read the entire series (all 13 books), and I have also read Lemony Snicket: The Unauthorised Autobiography. So when I found out that there was another book, The Beatrice Letters, I had to buy it to try and solve the mystery of Beatrice ...
...have been following the tragic and unfortunate events in the lives of the Baudelaire orphans then you will have heard of Beatrice, as throughout the books references are made about her. If you are going to read this book in hope to solve all of the mystery surrounding this subject, I think you might be disappointed (I was), as it seemed to raise more questions about Beatrice than it answered. I read this book in about an hour, as it isn't very long. ... Read review

Series of Exciting Events
Review of The End (Series of Unfortunate Events) - Lemony Snicket by alexthegreat

Advantages: Great storyline, extremely exciting and it just makes you keep listening.
Disadvantages: It can be hard to follow at times.

I love the Series of Unfortunate Events and have done so since I got read the 7th one first for some reason. So this is the 13th (unlucky for some) and last in the series. It is written by Lemony Snicket who has followed the Baudelaires and recorded their stories. He tells the tale of the three siblings; Violet, Klaus and Sunny. Anyone who has read the previous 12 volumes will know that they have been put in some darstadly and sinister situations ...
...occured because of the devious Count Olaf who is after their immense fortune. It is a very worthy end to the series. It is full of action, horror, suspense and it is quite funny at times. It is a great read, but it is complicated even if you have read the other 12 but you will need to read them to know what is happening. ... Read review
