What's In Your Bathroom?
Review of Beetle in the Bathroom - Brian Moses by
neenn
Advantages: Great rhyming text and humorous illustrations
Disadvantages: Too Short!!
...skiing down the bath, a beetle singing in the shower, a centipede giving itself a manicure, a spider bungee jumping from the sink and ants using the sink as a skating rink etc.....
All the while the narrator is waiting to use the loo so shouts ever so loudly at the minibeasts if he / she could come in for just one minute............PLEASE?
And so ends the story, leaving it up to the reader to decide whether the human was granted his / her request.
... ...are fantastic and in my opinion make the book so popular amongst children. They are very amusing with the centipede giving itself a pedicure and the spider bungee jumping from the sink!
They are very detailed whilst at the same time being very bold and eye-catching. ~ Style and Format ~
This book is suitable from 2 years upwards. It is full of rhyme and is very easy for children to commit the text to memory and join in after the first or second ...

How To Play For Chelsea
Review of Billy the Kid - Michael Morpurgo by
jillmurphy
Advantages: Well-written, honest, emotionally engaging.
Disadvantages: Young Manchester United fans may not like it so much!
...did, once."
It is Billy the Kid's eightieth birthday, and as he sits on his favourite park bench, whiling away the hours before the match, he reminisces about his life. And it has been an eventful life. All Billy ever wanted to do was to play football for Chelsea FC. And he did too, before the war. He was good, scoring nine goals in his first season. Word had it that he would be playing for England before the year was out. But then Hitler came. ... ...Dunkirk. Because of Joe's death, Billy broke his promise to his father and joined up too, as a medic. And from then on, nothing went right for Billy. Nothing went right for Billy for a long, long time. The peace and safe harbour of that park bench has been so very hard to find…
A story for young, but confident, readers of perhaps six to nine, Billy the Kid is not one that will last them forever. The narrative is simple but the vocabulary fairly ...

The Recruit - Must Read!!!!!
Review of Cherub The Recruit - Robert Muchamore by
chrisattrill
Advantages: Intresting, Amazing story line and realistic characters
Disadvantages: None!
...read. In fact the whole Cherub series are great. Before I read The Recruit I use to hate reading because I always loose intrest in the first chapter, but after reading the first page of the The Recruit I got "addicted" to the book, and then carried on the reading the whole Cherub series. I think the book is so good because its realistic. We could all see this happening and that is why its such a brilliant book. Its has emense detail and of course ... ...I would reconmend the Cherub series to anyone. Espeacily the people who find it difficuit to pick up a book and finish it. What is it about?
Meet James & the gang for the first time.
CHERUB: The Recruit tells James Adams' story from the day his mother dies. Read about his transformation from a couch potato into a skilled CHERUB agent. Meet Lauren, Kyle, Kerry and the rest of the cherubs for the first time and learn how James foiled the biggest ...

child abuse that was accepted as norm!
Review of Chinese Cinderella - Adeline Yen Mah by
pixie65
Advantages: beautifully written and factual
Disadvantages: a chilling insight into cruel traditions
Chinese Cinderella - an emotional journey of survival. This book was recommended to me by a fellow colleague teaching the same year group and planniing for next term's literacy unit ( Stories from other cultures)
I managed to buy this book Tuesday morning and was so engrossed by this little girl's journey that didn't put it down until completed.
GENRE
Historical Fiction / Autoboigraphy. Although listed under children's Fiction I would encourage ... ...book comes in a bright Chinese red cover with an endearing photograph of Adeline inset and beautiful flower designs around the corners. There is a sequel in a blue cover so don't be confused by the 2. The issue I purchased was a Puffin, paperback priced at £5.99.
CONTENTS
There are many references to the history of Chinese politics/war. Especially good are the references to the style and art of Chinese writing,(chapter 22 is the orginal story of ...

Funny Coloured Elephants & A Butterfly
Review of Elmer and Butterfly - David McKee by
belfin
Advantages: Teaches children the importance of helping others
Disadvantages: none
...being the author of many Elmer books, David McKee is also the creator Mr Benn and King Rollo, which I'm sure many of the older generation reading this review, will remember. My son loves the Elmer book and this is just the latest in a long line that he chose from the library at nursery last week. For those of you who have not seen Elmer before, he is a brightly coloured patchwork elephant who lives in the jungle with all his friends.
***The Story***
... ...though, the story starts with Elmer having his usual walk through the jungle when he hears a voice that he thinks in coming from high up in the trees. Really it is just his cousin Wilbur playing a trick on him and they both have a good laugh. As Elmer walks further on he hears another voice and thinks it is just Wilbur again, until he sees a small butterfly, trapped inside a hole under a huge branch that has fallen. He quickly moves the branch and ...
