DVD HR703 Not bad for the money!
Review of Samsung DVD HR730 by
bluestar666
Advantages: Great quality recording, Value for money, Detailed English Instructions
Disadvantages: Fiddly remote, Analogue tuner only, DVD-R's only
I bought this for my own use at home. It was really quite easy to set up. I was quite impressed as the manual was all in enlish, unlike some products where you have to flick through all the different languages to find the english instructions!! The manual is quite big though but does have alot of info of how to use it in.
The remote that comes with it has quite small buttons and is very long and thin which is not ideal, especially if your one with ... ...The recording quality is fantastic though, but it does take a long time to burn things to the DVD. Another bad point about it is that it will only record on DVD-R blank disks. Another thing is that it only has an analogue tuner which will cause problems when the analogue is turned off in 2009!
Overall though, i think that this is worth the money paid!! ...

Sony RDR - HXD970 DVD recorder
Review of Sony RDR-HXD970 by
Bob77
Advantages: Own internal tuners, easy to use and quiet.
Disadvantages: 250gb might not be big enough but there is the 500 gb version.
An excellent DVD recorder. I am transferring my VHS tapes to DVD as well as recording new TV programmes. It is fairly easy to use and the quality is excellent. I particularly like the way you can list your recordings by category (film, documentary etc) making it easy to find what you are looking for. Recording using the Electronic Programme guide is very simple and there is a facility to time slip programmes if your viewing is interupted by a phone ... ...a different programme to the one you are watching.
The DVD recorder employs upgrading of DVD playback using the HDMI connection. So, if you have one of the HD ready TVs you will enjoy a better picture. One further attribute of this machine is that it is very quiet in operation. ...

Toshibe RD-XV47
Review of Toshiba RD XV47 by
marko123
Advantages: DivX / Hard Drive / DVD (+rw -rw +r -r)
Disadvantages: No Freeview built in
This is a great machine. After searching the web for a device that would play my old VHS videos and newer DVDs this came in my top 3. Then after some discussion with my son, who is a computer whizz kid, he noticed that the others did not offer DivX.
He outlined to myself that he could get videos and tv programmes off the interent and burn them to a DVD or CD and play them without the need to re-encode the video into DVD format. Meaning to make the ... ...to re-encode.
After buying the machine and seeing the results it gives, i am more than happy i chose it. I could not find a review for this machine anywhere else, but i could find reviews for other machines, that did not have DivX. I see this as a 'MUST HAVE' for the future as lots of video is going to become available on the internet in the future, and you would not want to have to re-encode everytime you wanted to burn a disk from your computer ...

Liteon LVW5045? More like Liteoff.
Review of LIteOn LVW-5045 by
wilkinsgraham
Advantages: Low cost
Disadvantages: Dodgy menus, very disk fussy, lousy DVD burner that will fail.
...eventually replaced the DVD burner in mine with a Liteon 20X unit for about £16. This solved the problem, and for the moment, it's been working perfectly. Fitting a replacement burner is straightforward enough, though getting it to neatly fit into the existing front fascia is a bit more challenging. ...

The Ipod Alternative
Review of Samsung YP-K5JAB - Digital AV player - flash 4 GB - 1.71" - black by
JackWilliam
Advantages: Looks, sound, originality
Disadvantages: battery life, loudness of speakers
The Samsung YP K5 mp3 player is immediately striking. Its sleek design and black finish would seamlessly fit into Batman's arsenal of gadgets. When I first bought the product it was immediately noticed by friends and strangers and as an aid to 'street rep' it works wonders. I was at first dubious of the sound of the speakers - I bought it over the internet and so had no way of trying out the player to check the sound capacity. However, my worries ...
