Archos 605, the ugly iPod touch??
Review of Archos 605 WiFi 160 GB by
olliecoleshill
Advantages: Huge storage, good screen quality, best device of its type.
Disadvantages: You have to pay for extra plug-ins, heavy, ugly.
...is perfect.
At times, the archos can be slow, but this is expected with any hard drive based media player. It is considerably bigger than an iPod touch and is not as sleek, however, for me, I need lots of storage and the iPod Touch's 32GB is not nearly enough. The touch screen is very good for internet browsing and flicking through photos, but the choice to include buttons was a good idea. Sometimes when you are listening to music, you do not need ... ...the speaker quality is poor when playing at full volume.
I recommend the Archos 605 WiFi to people that NEED the extra storage, however, if you have under 32GB of media that you will put on the device, the I suggest you go for the iPod Touch or iPhone. ...

Philips DVDR3460H
Review of Philips DVDR3460H by
ColinWhiteley
Advantages: Sleek design, good picture quality
Disadvantages: unreliable record, no DVD to HD, nuisance OSD
...TV? - Forget it! - Philips DVDR3460H will let you down time and time again. Out of 5 sessions 3 were failures - and it could get worse.
Reason? - Philips have set themselves up as some sort of ‘media police’ and if the evenings transmission has just one ‘protected’ program, the Philips DVDR3460H will delete the whole evenings recording!
So you want to record from DVD to hard disk? - Forget it! - After loosing the original tape of a holiday to Egypt, ... ...to hard disk - the Philips DVDR3460H does not copy from it’s DVD to hard disk.
So you want to enjoy slow motion? - Forget it! - The Philips DVDR3460H ‘On Screen’ display covers so much of the screen you will be lucky to see the pitch, let alone the ball!
There is no option to hide on screen displays during playback in ‘set up‘.
The Philips DVDR3460H should not be sold until it has had a major software upgrade.
The sleek and good looking Philips ...

Stream media from your pc to your tv
Review of Pinnacle ShowCenter 200 by
oxygenuk
Advantages: stream your computers media to your tv
Disadvantages: quality of wi-fi, setup can be tricky
...of the showcenter 200 called Pinnacle media manager.
Aside from Pinnacle media manager being on the cd-rom there is also the necessary software and drivers you need to install to successfully via the cd-rom to establish a connection between your pc and the showcenter 200 which can either be done via wifi 802.11g, which i found to be very tricky and couldnt seem to establish a connection via wifi, or when anything did happen i just lost the connection, ... ...and there are no problems at all with connectivity or anything.
Then how about box contents, well in the box you get a wifi dongle which you connect to the back of the showcenter 200 to establish a signal for wireless connectivity, you also get a 3 metre ethernet cable (cat5e), and of course you get the other basics such as scart lead and the plug.
So how about an overall opinion, well i found this on ebay for £100 which was sold as an ex display ...

Liteon LVW5045? More like Liteoff.
Review of LIteOn LVW-5045 by
wilkinsgraham
Advantages: Low cost
Disadvantages: Dodgy menus, very disk fussy, lousy DVD burner that will fail.
...eventually replaced the DVD burner in mine with a Liteon 20X unit for about £16. This solved the problem, and for the moment, it's been working perfectly. Fitting a replacement burner is straightforward enough, though getting it to neatly fit into the existing front fascia is a bit more challenging. ...

The Ipod Alternative
Review of Samsung YP-K5JAB - Digital AV player - flash 4 GB - 1.71" - black by
JackWilliam
Advantages: Looks, sound, originality
Disadvantages: battery life, loudness of speakers
The Samsung YP K5 mp3 player is immediately striking. Its sleek design and black finish would seamlessly fit into Batman's arsenal of gadgets. When I first bought the product it was immediately noticed by friends and strangers and as an aid to 'street rep' it works wonders. I was at first dubious of the sound of the speakers - I bought it over the internet and so had no way of trying out the player to check the sound capacity. However, my worries ...
