A Fish Called Wanda
Review of A Fish Called Wanda DVD by nikiwitch123

Advantages: Hilarious
Disadvantages: some may not like adult humour

...no doubt this film is a classic. It is a film that can be watched again and again and will still hold its comedy value. Whilst there are few special effects in this film, it adds to its appeal, as it simply does not need any. What you see is what you get, a side splitting film with actors projecting side splitting performances. Any film with John Cleese and Jamie Lee Curtis is bound to be a winner, as this one is ... "Don't worry. We can walk to the curb from here."
Review of Annie Hall DVD by arthurpringle

Advantages: A funny and enjoyable experience
Disadvantages: Erm...you might not like Woody Allen

Annie Hall was the 'breakout' film for Woody Allen as a director. The film won four Academy awards including best picture/director and saw Allen move away from the freewheeling comedy films he was best known for at the time. Annie Hall is essentially about the relationship between Alvy Singer (Allen), a typically neurotic Allen character, in this case a comedian, and aspiring singer Annie Hall, played by Diane keaton in an Oscar winning performance. ...
...between Alvy and Annie's family. Annie Hall begins with Allen speaking straight to the camera as Alvy. The scene is an immediate indication that Allen has moved on and is seeking to make a different type of picture with more ambition. Alvy's very Woody Allen concerns give us an insight into his character and make an arresting beginning; "There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the ... As Good As It Gets
Review of As Good As It Gets DVD by ZoeKRx

Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: None

...an oscar for his role as Melvin Udall as did Helen Hunt for her role as Carol Connelly. The love/hate relationship that develops between these superb actors undoubtedly makes the film so good. Plot themes include Melvin's obsessive compulsive disorder, Carol dealing with her son's illness and Simon Bishop (Greg Kinnear) bringing up homosexuality. Each role is acted beautifully but the two stars of the show have to be Jack Nicholson and the dog. Nicholson ...
...such as "sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here," (Jack Nicholson) Nicholson delivers comedy at its best. Nicholson is forced to transform his bitter ways when delegated a down-right adorable dog, which gradually, along with helping Carol's son's health develops someone who you can sit and watch over and over again. James L. Brooks has distributed a classic that I propose needs owning on DVD. I would not advise for young audiences as ... Read review

Real presence
Review of Being There DVD by frkurt

Advantages: Great performances, great story
Disadvantages: -

...is as close to pure being and a human being can be. Unspoilt by intellect, education, or experience of society, Chance the Gardener has been raised in a protective environment where he main concern is for plants, other living things coming close to simple being, and for a mindless attentiveness to the television that washes over him like a halo, providing him with sufficient information to make others around him believe he is wise and knowledgeable. ...
...backs up to watch himself being displayed from the video camera, and is injured by a passing car belonging to Benjamin Rand, wealthy financier and kingmaker. Mrs. Rand is in the car (played astutely by Shirley MacLaine), and insists on taking Chance (who, while taking his first alcoholic drink, garbles the words to the degree that she mishears his name, becomes at this point Chauncey) back to the Rand estate, where doctors and nurses are in attendance ...
