Advantages: Inexpensive.
Disadvantages: Sometimes works and sometimes does not.

We purchased the player for our daughters birthday at the begining of Februay this year.It was very reasonably priced at only £25 and we were not looking to aquire anything too extravagent, our daughter is not yet old enough to be interested in special features, sound quality and the like just yet. DVD PLAYER APPEARANCE AND OPERATIONS. The player itself does look very smart. It has a highly polished silver front with manual buttons to enable you ...

A great DVD player if you're not into HD yet
Review of Panasonic DVD-S33 by PGregory

Advantages: Picture and sound quality, plays most file formats, huge array of options
Disadvantages: No HDMI or upscaling

...If that player is the Panasonic S-33, then the answer is yes. Barring the HD formats above and SACD, it will play just about any format you throw at it. Its DivX playback is probably one of the reason you are reading this. Of course, you can get most of these playback features with a cheapo, low-quality player, but read on... The DVD picture quality on a standard TV is, quite simply, stunning for a DVD player at any price. However, it lacks the ...
...S-53, so this player is perhaps not the first choice if you have an HD TV. But on my CRT telly, the picture is above broadcast quality in my view, with no visible compression artifacts or edge effects at all, even on fade-ins/outs where you would normally see a certain degree of posterisation/dithering with other players. The audio output is clean, sharp, and pretty noiseless; orchestral music is particularly well served here (Alien and Bladerunner ... Read review

Job well done
Review of Panasonic DVD-S511 by thewhitewolf

Advantages: branded player at a cheap price
Disadvantages: none

...as LG, Sony Jvc and Panasonic that i know will perform their task better than their nameless contemporaries. This leads me onto the Panasonic DVD-S 511 which i find fits the criteria correctly. Okay, it's not as inexpensive as the £30 Grundigs you could get, but its guaranteed to give you good quality movie playability. I brought this for £60, so below the price quoted by Ciao. For this i got a good dvd player that does what i want it to do coupled ...
...complaint, Panasonic will resolve it. The Performance So how does this player perform. Well, it does what i want it to do, which is provide a platform that shows movies to a very high standard, without technical or mechanical or electronic difficulties. Picture playback is great, stunnig indeed and with the surround sound system it packs a punch. Very easy to use with appropriate functions and easy to install and get going. It plays in all recognisable ... Read review

Best buy DVD Player of its time
Review of Panasonic DVDS35EBS by coz93

Advantages: Slim Design , Multi Region Function and Wife Friendly
Disadvantages: Will not support DVD+R media

...effect that matched exactly my Panasonic AV Control Receiver SA-XR15.They look very classy together in my home cinema corner. The player is very easy to use (even my wife has a go!!!) and the playback is of high quality. The sound is very good and picture perfect. This is the best player I have owned but make sure that nothing sits on top of it as it heats up and distorts playback. It is multiregional and plays DVD-r, DVDRAM, CD, CDr, MP3/WMA and ...
...as being important but I have a double layer DVD writer which will only write +r discs !! However this player is so good that I will not use the double layer function until I have to replace the player. The manual is very comprehensive and easy to understand. The player is fine when there is nothing on top of it. I found out the hard way when I tried to put my av controller on top of it!! The remote is ok - its more down to what you prefer but it ... Read review

Review of Philips DVP 5980 by AJRAD

Advantages: good image, high definition (1080p), good sound, easy use
Disadvantages: no Real Dolby

I was attracted to purchase this DVD player a while ago for its DivX capabilities (something not too many players have). It is a fairly impressive HDMI player, supporting 1080p High Definition resolution pictures. The HD output is flawless and makes for a great movie watching time. After I bought this, I spent a few days just sitting on the sofa watching DVDs with my friends with this player (they were also impressed with the HD). This is still ...
...of the film-watching spree now I will occasionally have a film night with my mates enjoying the high quality and resolution of the DVP 5980. The sound output is also fairly impressive and although it does depend on the audio capabilities of the TV you're using, having a DVD player that also has high calibre audio helps too. It doesn't have Real Dolby though, which is a shame and is also why this product does not get five stars from me. But then ... Read review
