I bought one at B&Q, because it just seemed to be too good a bargain to pass up. Normal price was £19.68, and with the 15% discount that ay, it set me back £16.73 [current best prices are around £20 on the net] At that kind of money, it started calling out to me as a "must buy", after all, even if it turns out to be a complete turkey, I haven't lost much. ...joy of joys, it isn't a turkey! The main unit is slimline (about 2" high), a marked contrast to the excessively chunky appearance of some cheap players which just SCREAM "cheap". Not this one. It just sits there looking innocent, and not giving anything away about its bargain basement origins. I received this as a xmas present, and it is very good. I can fit 6 Divx films onto a blank DVR and the quality is an improvement over playing them on the PC. Easy to use menus, and a nicely sized remote control. There is an 5.1 output on the back, as well as outputs for RCA connectors. I have it connected up to a Yamaha home cinema audio, and the sound of explosions etc is deafening when theyu go off unexpectedly. The complete list of formats ...
...Xvid Mpeg1 Mpeg2 Vcd s-Vcd K-vcd The only things I have thrown at it that it will not play, are mp4 films. I have to use a program like Acidrip to convert them into divx first. I got this for an Amazing £99 (the silver model is £79)witch is good considering It used to cost a penny shy of £200!. Forget getting a cheap Upscaling Samsung or Toshiba this is the real deal! The sound is great and it will make a respectable CD player in its own right especially as it can play SACD`s and DVD audio disks. and the Picture though HDMI is very good too, the only criticism is that the can be some Jagges due to it been an older player. ...
