Good for the price
Review of Funai DBVR5500 by
section8fruitcake
Advantages: Cheap, looks nice, easy to use, works!!
Disadvantages: Not a well known brand so people might be wary
This isn't actually just a dvd player, this model is vcr/dvd combi, but for some reason it isn't in that section.
Anyway, I bought this model for something like £80 from Currys as I needed a cheap combi. We had never heard of the brand before so were a bit dubious, and the salesperson was trying harder than normal to get us to buy it which didn't help, but it is a good combi.
It plays dvds and videos, and records tv onto video. Simple as that. ... ...set up and program, looks nice (it's silver) and it fits on a standard tv/video wall bracket.
It's not fancy, but it doesn't try to be. It's cheap and easy to use and that's the main thing.
I've had mine for at least a year now and have had no problems at all with it, which is more than I can say for my Goodmans tv!!
I don't use it everyday so it might not stand up to that, but for fairly frequent use it's great. ...

FUNAI PLF-76
Review of Funai Funai PLF-76 by
thelooney
Advantages: Well built, great picture quality clear menus. It's great in the car too.
Disadvantages: The sound is good for sub $250 player but could be louder from speakers.
I have recently bought one of these whilst visiting friends in Europe and was amazed by the quality for such a relatively inexpensive item ($240). The picture is fantastic and clear considering it's only a 7" screen and with widescreen format we know have our own in flight cinema. The sound is good from headphones too although not dolby and all that but still digital and the unit comes with a smart remote control too.
Durability is excelllent, the ... ...put it correctly in the case and mounted it and yet there is not a scratch visable. After doubting this brand as I have never heard of it, I now feel a bit silly. Only time will tell but I already feel that I would definately recommend this player to all. ...

Not such a bargain
Review of Alba DVD62XI by
sm276
Advantages: Cheap, small
Disadvantages: Over time stops playing recorded discs
I purchased a Alba DVD62XI from Argos about a year ago as I wanted a cheap DVD player than played recorded DVDs. This is the cheapest I could find (based on other reviews that it played copied discs).
The DVD player worked fine for about 3 or 4 months before I started having issues. After that time the DVD player began skipping and lost the ability to read recorded discs. Nothing had happened in that time (The player had not been dropped or even ... ...to why it happened. I know someone else who has the exact same player and they have had the same issues, although it took a little bit longer to happen.
In conclusion - If you are looking for a cheap DVD player that plays recorded discs, spend a little bit more. I eventually ended up paying £25ish for a Panasonic DVD player (not sure of model) and I am much happier. ...

biztrends
Advantages: With most wanted features!
Disadvantages: The issue wt da vwng mode memory!
At this price range it offers a much bigger satisfactory level for the consumer...!to some it may look too polished/shiny(jet black) but a sleek design with a blue light "power on" indicator..maybe too bright yet nice!...very simple setup menus, dolby digital decoding+DTS,HDMI upconvertion works superbly(1080P)and the supplied HDMI cable does the job well..DivX playback is supported..on screen menus are designed well and the remote also comes in handy..but ...

The Well Known Brand of Aitro!
Review of Aitro DVDAW08 by
JamieJCO
Advantages: Cheap, very small and compact.
Disadvantages: The "on" light comes on when it's off | Can't record | Slightly too quiet |
The Aitro DVD player is a very simple compact product, which is perfect for people either on a budget or in need of a small DVD player which will save space. It cannot record, but for around £15-20 it is still a bargain. It is very easy to install, as only 3 wires have to be plugged into the DVD player itself and 3 into the TV. It is very straight forward and the instructions walkthrough everything clearly enough.
Whilst it is cheap it is definately ... ...as an expensive DVD Player, as I haven't experienced any techincal difficulties to date. As with most up to date DVD players it can play CD's and MP3s. It can be a bit quiet when playing DVD's but the only thing necessary to solve that is to turn up the TV. The remote control looks fairly cheap and tacky, but it does the job and has all the necessary functions to watch a DVD without any hassle. Overall the DVD player itself works fine, and I can ...
