Not as good as I expected
Review of JVC DRM10 by barney04

Advantages: Looks, DVD tray, ease-of use
Disadvantages: Hard to install properly, inferior quality recordings

At first I was very pleased with this product as the design is very good, it does not take up much space in terms of height and the blue light and opening mechanism of the DVD tray is a pretty nice touch. However, I found this DVD recorder to be quite difficult to set-up and to receive all the channels available to you (especially in Auto set-up mode) and is complicated if you are also trying to connect satellite receivers to the system as well. ...
...recorder was not fully compatible with the satellite receiver I own. My first experience of this DVD recorder was not good, as the first recorder I got was faulty and needed replacing. Once I did install it and recorded my first few programmes, at playback the results were good. I was told that the DVD recorder would provide almost identically crystal clear playback as the original image, and upon watching the highest quality recordings possible ... Read review

Worth every penny
Review of JVC DRMH20 by ChristopherEllis

Advantages: the price is right, great features, user friendly
Disadvantages: occasional freezes

...The DR-MH20 is described by JVC as a "Stylish DVD recorder with a built in 80 GB hard disk drive to revolutionise your TV and recording routine" and is at the bottom of JVCs Hard Drive recorder line up, with the DR-MH30 and DR-MH50 both improving on the specifications of the MH20, the most notable of which is the hard drive size which increases to 160GB on the MH30 and a whopping 250GB on the MH50. However, price is obviously a factor and in looking ...
...this is available from the JVC website and any place that sells the machine so I don't need to rehash the stats here. What you really want to know is: is it any good? It wasn't that long ago that VCR's were selling for £260 so is it worth the dough? In a sentence: oh yes it is and then some! Having said that, it's not without its issues (I think the word 'problems' is too harsh in this case - so I'll stick with 'issues'). First off, there's a 91 ... Read review

A bargain to be had.
Review of JVC HR-XV 2 by floppy26

Advantages: All-in-one, Popular make. Good price
Disadvantages: confusing remote control!

I purchased my unit from Sky.buy for £110 so i was already happy with the all-in-one combi before i even took it out of the box. It is a standard 'Region-2' dvd player althgouh, after much searching, i managed to find a disk which unlocks it to 'Multi-region' and is RCE compatible. In general this is a superb machine, the picture quality is above-par, the design is fantastic and there are more than enough choices for connecting htis unit to your ...
...I must confess that it took me over half an hour to tune the VCD into the TV (maybe i'm now too old for new technology!) but once it was set it did the job. The remote control is cumbersome and i tend not to avoid using it. You can re-program the remote to work on your tv so avoiding loads of controllers on the arm of the sofa! Copying DVD-to-Vidoe is very straightforward although this will only let you copy 'un-copyrighted' material. If it is your ... Read review

Excellent all round DVD player
Review of LG Electronics DNX-190 UH by Arboy1971

Advantages: USB, DivX, multi-region
Disadvantages: Periodically loses multi-region, no USB access from remote

Had this player for over a year now and has been brilliant all round. Used remote hack to make multi-region and changed video system from PAL to NTSC (hold Pause until display on player flashes) to stop judder on playback. Has played everything I've thrown at it. It did lose it's multi region setting recently but used remote hack to re-set factory settings and then Zoran file burnt to CD to access region setting menu and now fine again. One drawback ...
...have to press a button on the DVD player to access the USB stick and this can't be done on the remote. Not a major problem though. Has HDMI out which provides better picture quality. Coaxial out for digital sound. Decodes Dolby 5.1 and DTS. As a bonus, it looks pretty sleek too. ... Read review

Worth it!
Review of Samsung DVD-1080 P 7 by lordo69

Advantages: Great quality
Disadvantages: Not very advanced interface

This DVD player is the one that i have in my lounge and is a great one in my eyes and i think i will have it for years to come. It goes very well with my sony LCD HDready television and was very easy to set up and also very quick. It plays pretty much anything and has great quality and is very easy to use, i.e. the remote is very simple layout but with most features available. Plus this dvd player is also a great buy because it is under £100 and ... Read review
