...half when I got my Matsui DVD125 as a Valentine's Day present. Not bad, all she got was a bunch of crappy flowers!. I wasn't desperate to join the revolution, I don't think I'd even made the appropriate noises about getting a DVD. I saw them (and still do) as a luxury item I can live without. ...couple - cheapskate!. The Matsui DVD125 is placed at the low / medium end of the market, priced at £140 - £150. (Yes I checked). You can buy cheaper, but not much. It is sold as a single region player (if it had been my purchase, I would have gone for a multi-region). Am I sounding ungrateful or what? This is a lovely neat little DVD player that was easy to set up (well it is just a scart lead!) and I have found it very reliable although the time it takes to read a disc is a second or two longer than most players. I have tried divX, + and - formats and photo cds and this dvd player has coped with them all. My brother bought us this for our Christmas present and we were really impressed. For a start the design is very sleek, it is slim and mostly silver but with a black digital display with yellowy-green writing. The digital display makes it look very smart and shows you how long the dvd has been playing for. ...done it in 2 seconds flat! The dvd player comes with a remote control (batteries not included) but sadly the design of this is not as sleek as the dvd player itself, its a bit grey and clunky. But it is again very easy to use. Advantages: USB, DivX, multi-region
Disadvantages: Periodically loses multi-region, no USB access from remote

Had this player for over a year now and has been brilliant all round. Used remote hack to make multi-region and changed video system from PAL to NTSC (hold Pause until display on player flashes) to stop judder on playback. Has played everything I've thrown at it. It did lose it's multi region setting recently but used remote hack to re-set factory settings and then Zoran file burnt to CD to access region setting menu and now fine again. One drawback ...
...have to press a button on the DVD player to access the USB stick and this can't be done on the remote. Not a major problem though. Has HDMI out which provides better picture quality. Coaxial out for digital sound. Decodes Dolby 5.1 and DTS. As a bonus, it looks pretty sleek too. ... Read review
