Advantages: DVDs, DIVX, and looks fantastic. Disadvantages: none
Before I bought this DVD player Id never really owned a DVD player before. I had however had and still do have a ps2 on which I used to play my DVDs.
I never really went and still don’t go on this so much so I was going to sell it and buy a DVD player. In the end I decided to just keep the ps2 and to get a cheaper DVD player than I was looking for in the first place.
The main reason why I wanted a new DVD instead of the one in the ps2 was ... ...DVD player in a ps2 doesn’t recognise this format and scene as I have several divx movies already on disk and on my laptop to put onto disk then I wanted a DVD player that would recognise and play this format.
Another plus to this format is that it saves space on disks as it compresses movies into smaller file sizes without compromising on the quality of the movie, so effectively you can get several movies onto one disk rather than just one ...

Advantages: Cheapest HDMI that I could find on the market. Disadvantages: It shows!
I bought this bargain-basement HDMI DVD player from Currys Digital on Oxford Street, to play through my newly purchase 40" Sony Bravia LCD TV. The cost was a mere £40, only a few pounds more than a regular DVD player. Currys also sold me an overpriced HD cable...£25, whereas such cables are generally available for around £15. Set up was easy - I didn't even need to refer to the instruction manual. Inital impression was very positive. The picture ... ...a regular DVD player, my only concern being that at the start of playback (when the disc is turning more quickly) the motor is quite noisy, disturbingly so in a quiet room. The noise quietens as the film progressses. However an early problem was intermittent frame freezing - I thought initially the problem might have been a dirty DVD, but the problem was inconsistent, and applied to a range of DVDs that played well through other machines. After 6 ...

Advantages: USB, DivX, multi-region Disadvantages: Periodically loses multi-region, no USB access from remote
Had this player for over a year now and has been brilliant all round. Used remote hack to make multi-region and changed video system from PAL to NTSC (hold Pause until display on player flashes) to stop judder on playback. Has played everything I've thrown at it. It did lose it's multi region setting recently but used remote hack to re-set factory settings and then Zoran file burnt to CD to access region setting menu and now fine again. One drawback ... ...have to press a button on the DVD player to access the USB stick and this can't be done on the remote. Not a major problem though. Has HDMI out which provides better picture quality. Coaxial out for digital sound. Decodes Dolby 5.1 and DTS. As a bonus, it looks pretty sleek too. ...

Advantages: Great quality Disadvantages: Not very advanced interface
This DVD player is the one that i have in my lounge and is a great one in my eyes and i think i will have it for years to come. It goes very well with my sony LCD HDready television and was very easy to set up and also very quick.
It plays pretty much anything and has great quality and is very easy to use, i.e. the remote is very simple layout but with most features available.
Plus this dvd player is also a great buy because it is under £100 and ...

Advantages: Size, Upscaling and Sound Quality Disadvantages: Remote control, menu system keeps forgetting settings...
This Samsung 1080p DVD player is the perfect companion for any of the latest Samsung LCD and Plasma TV's. We currently own the Q96 Plasma model and the F1080 fits just under the TV, it is smaller than the stand on the TV. But it has all of the features of the chunkier 1080p dvd players. Another plus to Samsung customers is that it has the Anynet+ function, meaning you can use the tv remote to control the DVD player. This is suggested as the remote ... ...small and useless in my view. There are a few firmware faults with this model, for example it sometimes won't play a DVD on initial startup and you have to restart the player as it just blue screens.
The upscaling quality is good, however I have only my xbox on vga connection to compare it to.
Upscaling quality: 8/10
Connections: 9/10 Remote: 2/10
Menu System: 5/10 (can be annoying at times)
Sound Quality: 10/10 (on 5.1 setup)
Anything else ...
