Cheap but very cheerful
Review of Denon DVD900 by
andyiacovou
Advantages: Looks great, Plays MP3's well, Great sound
Disadvantages: Noisy DVD draw, poor remote
...recently developed a liking for Denon products, and the opportunity to get hold of one of their DVD players at a reasonable price was too good to miss! This has all the usual features including MP3, DTS, Dolby Digital and some extras including Progressive scan. Clever features include a 2MB buffer memory which reduced the effect of layer change. The Audio playback is excellent as you would expect. Denon made their reputation on audio and they live ... ...also very good, but the S-Video performance could be better. For the money this is a superb buy and if your lucky enough to find one, grab it while you can. I paid £100 for this brand new off an Ebay retailer. Compare this to other DVD players for the same price and you will see the difference ...

DVDo you want a fantastic bargain.
Review of Cyberhome CHDVD400 by
carbraxas
Advantages: Compact. Easy to set up. Cheap.
Disadvantages: None.
Another electical item bites the dust - our old Hikona DVD player that was never very good from the day we bought it but somehow scaped through a years use to finally go caput a few days out of guarantee.
So I bought the Cyber Home from Amazon and it only cost me £19.99 with free delivery which was super fast. I ordered it on Sunday night and it was here 9 am Tuesday morning. The DVD player was so easy to set up, it only took a couple of minutes ... ...widescreen.
It plays DVDs DVD-R DVD-RW CDs CD-R CD-RW Picture CDs and has a hack apparently for NTSC DVDS but I haven't got any North American DVDs as yet so I'm leaving that one alone for now.
It does what it says on the tin and thats the way I like electricals. Cheap, easy to use and works.
The picture playback is much better than our old DVD player. The instruction manual is very very good. Everything is clearly explained with diagrams I can ...

Excellent value Philips DVD
Review of Philips DVD625 by
garywatts1967
Advantages: Play almost all +R and - R DVD's, easy to use, reliable, small
Disadvantages: Slightly slow loading
The DVD manual says that this model only plays +R's. In practice it will play almost anything and any make of DVD both +R and -R, +/-RW's as well.
My other DVD's - Sony, Toshiba and Alba skip on the DVD's that this one breezes by. Its definitely the best one I have.
A slimline system with a small remote control, the 625 is nice looking. Probably the best DVD player I have bought so far. The 625 plays CD's and photo's easily and performs well. Sound ...

Would I buy it? All ready have!
Review of Sony DVPNS730 by
tobuyornottobuy
Advantages: Sony high quality and reliabilty
Disadvantages: Sony price
Where to start? Its sony so its a name you can rely on for quality first and foremost. Sony products are usually higher priced than their counterparts but 85% of the time the difference is warrented. The player its self is sleek and stylish, well built with a good solid feel to it. Connection to tv, and other outputs are well laid out. The manual is well laid out and straight foward to read and understand (which nowadays makes a change!). The remote ... ...picture quality as well as sony (In my opinion). The only down side are layer changes which the editors of films seem to put in at the most stupid times which can cause a 3 to 5 seconds pause before resuming, the sony (on all the films I have watched through it) only took 2 seconds maximum so it copes with this well.
Sound quality is superb be it 5.1, 6.1 or stereo surroud. The bass is good and strong without being OTT, and higher ranges are clear ...
