Not as good as I expected
Review of JVC DRM10 by
barney04
Advantages: Looks, DVD tray, ease-of use
Disadvantages: Hard to install properly, inferior quality recordings
At first I was very pleased with this product as the design is very good, it does not take up much space in terms of height and the blue light and opening mechanism of the DVD tray is a pretty nice touch. However, I found this DVD recorder to be quite difficult to set-up and to receive all the channels available to you (especially in Auto set-up mode) and is complicated if you are also trying to connect satellite receivers to the system as well. ... ...recorder was not fully compatible with the satellite receiver I own. My first experience of this DVD recorder was not good, as the first recorder I got was faulty and needed replacing. Once I did install it and recorded my first few programmes, at playback the results were good. I was told that the DVD recorder would provide almost identically crystal clear playback as the original image, and upon watching the highest quality recordings possible ...

Philips HDRW720
Review of Philips HDRW720 by
mattthechap
Advantages: Lots of unique features
Disadvantages: awkward remote
I've been using the Philips unit for a couple of weeks now. It has some really nice features but there is room for improvement. The instruction manual and the remote layout isn't very user friendly. It comes with a lot of good features but the layout of the remote and the huge instruction manual makes it a bit hard to use. Every time I use the remote I find myself looking for the correct button to press, because all the buttons feel the same. I have ... ...using this to record television shows for later viewing and possibly recording on to disc. Recording programs has never been easier. Simply highlight the show you want to record and how often you want it recorded by pressing a few buttons. This service is free which is very useful!tThe only problem is that this unit can't control your satellite receiver to turn on and tune to a particular channel, so if you want to record something you have to set ...

A Great All Rounder
Review of Pioneer DV575A by
adamdavid
Advantages: Plays DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, CD, MP3, JPEG, CD-R
Disadvantages: Haven't found any yet
Prior to purchasing the Pioneer DV-575AS I was watching DVDs on either my 15" laptop screen or via my TV using my Playstation 2. At the time I was renting DVDs at a phenomenal rate and I was finding a few that wouldn't play through my Playstation. I didn't have 5.1 surround sound from my laptop, so what was I to do?
I decided I wanted the Pioneer DV-565. It was due to be replaced soon, so I thought I'd be able to get it cheap. I found it online ... ...turned everything on, set the Pioneer to play the multi-channel version and was amazed at how this album sounded. The opening to "Money" had the various ker-chings and chimes bouncing round the room all around me.
I haven't had chance to try the DVD-Audio features yet, as DVD-A (and SACD) discs are far too expensive.
Anyway, back to the Pioneer. I've had this player for 11 months now and I've noticed a couple of small problems. The first problem ...

Excellent all round DVD player
Review of LG Electronics DNX-190 UH by
Arboy1971
Advantages: USB, DivX, multi-region
Disadvantages: Periodically loses multi-region, no USB access from remote
Had this player for over a year now and has been brilliant all round. Used remote hack to make multi-region and changed video system from PAL to NTSC (hold Pause until display on player flashes) to stop judder on playback. Has played everything I've thrown at it. It did lose it's multi region setting recently but used remote hack to re-set factory settings and then Zoran file burnt to CD to access region setting menu and now fine again. One drawback ... ...have to press a button on the DVD player to access the USB stick and this can't be done on the remote. Not a major problem though. Has HDMI out which provides better picture quality. Coaxial out for digital sound. Decodes Dolby 5.1 and DTS. As a bonus, it looks pretty sleek too. ...

Worth it!
Review of Samsung DVD-1080 P 7 by
lordo69
Advantages: Great quality
Disadvantages: Not very advanced interface
This DVD player is the one that i have in my lounge and is a great one in my eyes and i think i will have it for years to come. It goes very well with my sony LCD HDready television and was very easy to set up and also very quick.
It plays pretty much anything and has great quality and is very easy to use, i.e. the remote is very simple layout but with most features available.
Plus this dvd player is also a great buy because it is under £100 and ...
