The King
Review of Denon DVD 1500 by dan__85

Advantages: Good
Disadvantages: Price

Denon has always been the king of DVD players although not offering the cheapest option it does always offer a good product you can feel safe if the player you buy is Denon as you can be sure of a level of standards high than most other companies. If you are really into DVDs this is the one to get. But if you just want to be able to play DVDs just ge a cheap one as to the untrained eye there won't actually be much difference! The DVD player also ... Read review

Possibly the best DVD
Review of Toshiba SD 2200 by Slideways

Advantages: Loads!!! read the report!
Disadvantages: NONE

With the slow demise of the video, i was finally bullyied into buying a DVD by the girlfriend. After spending many nights round at friends who have the players we had already experienced the sound and picture quality. After visiting various high street retailers, i decided that the SD2200 was by far the best value for money. It cpomes with a dual disc system, pro logig amp built in, easy to follow on screen displays, and as you would expect LOADS ... Read review

Better Available Elsewhere Cheaper 2003
Review of Proline DVD 2000 by highroadwellian

Advantages: Easy to use
Disadvantages: Does not play CD-R

The Proline Multi Region DVD 2000 was my second buy. It cost about £100 in August 2001 from Comet. Of course I was asked to buy an additional guarantee that cost half as much as the player, so obviously declined. My first machine was bought from Asda, though I can't remember the name, this soon went back within one week for a cash refund, it was incapable of playing dual layered discs. Initially I was quite pleased with the Proline, this played ...
...switches layers. Obviously for a cheap model it is quite satifactory, but these days October 2003- you can get the same quality for around £60. The player will play pre-recorded factory CD music. But will not play CD-R's made on your computer, therefore MP3's or converted music albums cannot be played in CD-R format. An unusual quirk was that it would play some converted music files from CD-RW that I had made purely to test it out. The instruction ... Read review

Don't all DVD player pictures look the same
Review of Hitachi DV-P 305 by dnh9

Advantages: What you get for the price.
Disadvantages: Not multi-region(?) - if that matters to you.

...cheapest one there, and the Hitachi had a nice silvery look to it. It cost me £199 on 26 Jan 01. It supports VideoCD and CD as well as DVD. I played a compact disc, and it sounded fine to me through my TV's nicam stereo speakers. I like the handset. It has straightforward buttons for navigation, rather than one of those fiddly joysticks I've tried elsewhere. The player has options for zoom (x2 and x4) from any of 64 positions over the screen. ...
...in the DVD world the scart (RGB) lead gave a noticeably better picture than the S-video one. It even said so in the manual, so it isn't just me. I don't know if this is true generally, or just for Hitachi models. Overall a very satisfactory purchase. ... Read review

DVDs, MP3s and VCDs
Review of Aiwa XD-DV 370 by glerwell

Advantages: Plays MP3 and VCDs, Multi Region (Remote Hack)
Disadvantages: None that I found

The Aiwa XD-DV370 is my second DVD player after I decided that my LG3200E wasn't good enough for me. Although, the LG was a quality player for the price and it was multi-region (Remote Hack) I was after some extras. The XD-DV370 is a clone of the LG 3350E, it has an alternative style and some reduced features. Though, it plays the same media as the LG (DVD, MP3, Audio CD and VCD). Another attraction is that it is an multi-region player once the remote ...
...means that imported DVDs from the USA can played. With it able to play VCD this is quite handy as if you have a CDR you can create your VCDs and watch them. DVDs: I have had no trouble playing any DVDs and have watched region 1 DVDs on my player. MP3: This for me is the impressive feature, put all your favourite songs on a CD (50+) and listen to them. This beats changing CDs all the time and sounds great through the Hi-Fi. VCD: I created my own ... Read review
