A Sleuth too Aloof
Review of Sleuth DVD by
afy9mab
Advantages: The original play is very good.
Disadvantages: Virtually everything about this self-important, pretentious pile of tripe.
Millionaire crime writer Andrew Wyke invites his wife's lover to his hi-tech house to engage in a battle of wits. The clever and manipulative author is determined to use his mind games to bring unemployed actor Milo Tindle to his knees. So begins an elaborate game of cat-and-mouse, in which trickery and deceit are the keys to winning and staying alive.
Oh dear, oh dear - yet another pointless remake to a highly successful film, this time directed ... ...theatrical institution Harold Pinter. You'd have thought with such impeccable theatre credentials, this is one stage play adaptation that would have a fighting chance. But you'd be wrong. Instead it is a film too aware of its theatrical origins and stymied by the conventions of a stage-bound two-hander. For one thing the film looks like a play - the stark modernist setting could just as easily have been built on a stage and there's little sense of ...

triple gangster action!
Review of Green Street/I.D./Love, Honour And Obey DVD by
kezziefaerie
Advantages: 3 DVD's for the less than the price of 1! fantastic action packed films
Disadvantages: the box is cardboard, would have been better in plastic but not really a major issue
...boyfriends birthday as he loves Green Street and thought the other two films would probably be to his taste too!
I bought the boxset in tesco of all places for just £6 which is an absolute bargain for 3 great DVD's.
GREEN STREET
I didnt think I would enjoy this film as it is about football (yawn!) but thought I'd give it a go anyway as it was his birthday! I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed the film and you dont need to be a football ... ...storyline. Green Street is about two rival London firms in a bitter battle that ends in tragedy. The main character Matt Buckner, is played by Elijah Wood which when I read thought would be an unlikely choice for a film like this, however he displayed some fantastic acting and I was extremely impressed with his performance. The film has plenty of action and is in parts violent. Also starring in this film- Charlie Hunnam, Claire Forlani, Marc Warren ...

a good film, with good acting
Review of In Her Shoes DVD by
nicnncha
Advantages: good story, good acting, believable
Disadvantages: dragged at the start
I went to see this in the cinema when it came out, and it i have to say i wasnt too sure i liked it when i came out of the cinema. It was quite a serious type of comedy, which i wasnt expecting. I rewatched it last night though, and have to say i prefered it second time round. It was about 2 sisters who are completely different, one is played by toni collette and shes sensible and hasnt alot of confidence in herself, shes not very successful with ... ...her ruin her sisters life in the beginning of the movie. She doesnt have alot of thought for others, especially her poor sister who does everything for her. After months apart, Cameron Diaz's character maggie, takes stock of her life and then goes on to sort herself out, and she becomes a much nicer indidivual. You see her become more sensible and alot more caring and her transformation is great and i really did like the new maggie. You acting is ...

Empire of the Sun!
Review of Empire Of The Sun (Special Edition) by
danmclovin
Advantages: Beautiful, Heartwarming!
Disadvantages: None!
Released in 1988, Empire of the Sun is a brilliant epic movie set during the second world war. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the movie introduced a very young Christian Bale to the silver screen, who we all know by now has gone on to become a household name.
The movie is set around the Japanese invasion of China, during the second world war. Jamie Graham (Christian Bale), a precocious and priviledged young boy, and his parents are forced to flee ... ...to the invasion. Amid the mayhem of the escape, Jamie is separated from his parents, and returns to his old house in hope that they will return there to be re-united. As the days and weeks go by, with no sign of his parents returning, and with every last scrap of food having been consumed, Jamie is forced onto the streets of Shanghai, where he is rescued and taken in by two Americans, Basie (John Malkovich) and Frank (Joe Pantoliano).
Basie and ...
